Victoria was once a thriving British colony that gained independence in 1916. Following independence from British rule they remained close with the West and became an immportant trading hub between the west and Soviet Russia and then the USSR.

The two superpowers, USSR and US invested in the island, building a port in the sheltered Ayr bay and contructing miles and miles of highway. A railway was even constructed from Port Ayr to mainland USSR, which enabled incredibly effecient trading between the USSR and the West.

During WW2 an airfield was built on Victoria Island and the nearby capital of Victoria was used for many meetings of USSR, US and British leaders and officials, as Victoria was seen as neutral territory for the then friends.

In the aftermath of WW2 and the beginning of the cold war the small island state was forgotten. Trade and co-operation between the newly formed NATO block and the powerful USSR had dried up.

The economic situation on the islands becomes dire throughout the 50s. The NATO countries had no desire to prop up a small failed state on the USSR border. And due to the small but continued presence of NATO military operations in Victoria, the USSR had no intention of annexing the islands.

In 1959, having had enough of the failing capitalist economy, the people of the island revolted, declaring the island nation the latest Soviet Republic.
