Description:
This version is for the 1.2 beta, and will be deleted once 1.2 is out of beta. Find the regular version here.

NOTE: Anbeeld’s Revision of AI mod is recommended. This mod works without it, but is not as well balanced.

This mod incorporates AcrillicTuna’s IG descriptions mod. Mouse over an IG to read about its history!

The goal of BPM is to make politics more dynamic, more legible, more historically relevant. It sets out to correct these problems I have with the base game:

  1. Seven interest groups are not nearly sufficient to represent the breadth of political history.
  2. An IG’s ideology is overdetermined by the random ideology of its leader. For instance, trade unions can swing from communist to reactionary overnight, which doesn’t make sense.
  3. All IGs are internally united, when many of them suffered infighting and splits IRL. Why should all urban workers become communist at the same time? Where did the moderates go?
  4. Political parties are shallow. They’re too arbitrary, form and dissipate too frequently. Coalitions are either small and boring or huge and illegitimate.
  5. There is little international interaction between IGs, when many of them communicated and collaborated.

To accomplish this, BPM will do the following:

  1. Add new Ideological IGs to represent ideologically-motivated groups that form the core of a party.
  2. The vanilla IGs now represent powerful institutions, that can side with different parties at different times to swing elections. Generally, these are most powerful in the early game.
  3. IGs can split into two or more new IGs.
  4. Event chains to narrate IG crises. Currently
  5. More dynamic and historically accurate party names.

Compatibility:

  • Anbeeld’s AI is recommended as of 1.1.
  • Should be compatible with most mods that do not add new laws and ideologies.
  • Mods that add new pop types and IGs should work, but no guarantees that they interact with BPM in ways that make sense.

Features:

  1. Ten new Ideological IGs: Liberals, Radical Liberals, Conservatives, Reactionaries, Agrarian Populists, Trade Unionists, Socialists, Anarchists, Reformist Socialists, Revolutionist Socialists
  2. Vanilla IGs are reskinned and tweaked to represent various "Interests."
  3. Two IG splits: Socialists vs Anarchists and Reformist vs Revolutionary Socialists
  4. Three event chains: First International, Second International, and the global effects of the first major socialist revolution.
  5. Some party names for major countires as proof of concept.

Planned updates:

  • Update 1.1: Make sure the American Civil War makes sense, add flavor for Americas
  • Update 1.2: Add split for Conservatives/Market Liberals/Paternal Conservatives, flavor for Britain
  • Update 1.3: Add mechanics for post-revolutionary liberals and socialists + maybe Commie/Centrist Socialist split
  • Update 1.4: Improve non-ideological IGs, flavor for Germany
  • Update 1.5: Add split for Reactionaries/Moralists/National Chauvinists, flavor for Russia
  • Update 1.6: Add split for Trade Unionists/Syndicalists, flavor for France
  • Update 1.7: Add splits and events for unrecognized nations, flavor for China
