The TE3 is the Soviet 12-axle diesel-electric locomotive. Locomotives of the TE3 class were made to replace the last and the most powerful steam locomotives in Soviet Union – Class FD, Class L and others. There were built more than 6.8k locomotives, so TE3 was the most mass producted locomotive class in USSR up to late 70s.

3TE3 is a more powerful variant of the TE3 locomotive, which include 3 locos at once. It was built from 1961 to 1962, but up to 1985 different railways makes their own 3TE3 based on usual TE3 loco.

TE3L is an class of the experimental locomotives based on TE3. They had new electric engines and also looked like the more modern locos TE10L class.

The TE7 is an passenger modification of the TE3 class. The main difference was the reduction gear, which makes less tractive effort, but higher speed. Also, the TE7 class had different cabin, which later was used also on the TE3 locos.

Please, note: the 3TE3 locomotive is available only like DMU.
