Features

  • Big world. Go where you want, when you want and for the reasons you want. None of that linear stuff. Pursue your own goals. Fight for Rabbit clans or just wander in the vast forest of Undergrowth looking for adventures and treasures.
  • Day/night cycle with dynamic weather system that affects survivability and the world around you.
  • Hunger/thirst system, manage your ressources appropriately or die unprepared.
  • 4 fighting styles with levels and special mastery powers.
  • Merchants, as you travel the world look for good prices and provisions.
  • Dynamic quest system with currently 12 quest types.
  • Minimalistic equipment system to keep the game fast flowing.
  • 4 skills that can be improved by the player in order to reflect his/her playstyle.
  • Character persistance. Everytime you come back to Undergrowth, your progress has been saved.
  • Perma death system, yet not punishing towards combativeness (it is a fighting game after all).
  • Diablo like randomly generated magic items (we call them trinkets).
  • Steal, track, assassinate your way through an endless open world filled with interactable objects.
  • Pray the gods and recieve their blessings.
  • Illness (dont drink the poo poo waters)
  • Some secrets and parkhour puzzles can be generated by the engine.
  • Enemy caravans that can be tracked and raided.
  • Hunting parties. If you disturb the shiznit too much out there they will send bounty hunters after you.
  • Fear the wendigo! On a full moon, a creature from hell is roaming the forest. Stay hidden or get eaten (woah it rhymes).
  • Lore and storyline that unfolds at you own pace. Be part of the story or not. Learn about the lore of the Undergrowth by reading lore books across the world.
  • Secret legendary areas that can be revealed with the use of maps.
  • New enemies that just don’t fight you. They will steal from you, they will poison you and some will even capture you.
  • Plus many many many ways to die horribly and often (rogue like stuff you know).

    Known Issues

The mod may crash if you are using an nvidia GPU. But only few unlucky individuals. It’s pretty random. Which sucks. The OG devs are aware and it’s getting adressed. Meanwhile you can turn on simple shadows which usually is a good work around. Starting the mod in windowed mode has worked for some testers as well. No matter what emptying your game cache would be your first step.

    FAQ

  • Where do I find food ? Food can be found in containers around the world. It can also be bought at merchants in forts or peddlers in the forest. You can also find food if you look for farm patches and mushrooms. Some NPC’s bases have food tables as well.
  • Where do I find water? The main source of water in the game is lakes. Water can also be found in containers. Wells in forts are a source of free water. Containers across the world may provide water as well. Finally, some NPCs bases have tea or water jugs that can be looted.
  • I am ill so now what? lllness will go away on it’s own. You can monitor your sickness by pressing ‘i’. You can completly get rid the diseases by buying a healing draft at a peddler or hiring a healer at a fort. If you are ill and search containers you have a chance to find medecine in your loot based on your scavenging skill.
  • I am poisoned so now what? Poison will kill you over time. You can monitor your poison level by pressing ‘i’. If you reach 100% in poison rate your character will be perma dead. Antidotes can be found by looting containers around the world. You can also hire a healer at forts. You can buy a healing draft from a peddler. Once you are poisoned, any subsequent poisoning will increase your poison rate by 5%. Cold weather slows down the progression of poison.
    In depth FAQ

  • Why am I running so slow? Your running speed is usually a good indicator of the overall condition of your character. Starving, being thirsty, being ill, being fat (ya it’s a thing, try it) will slow you down. It will also impact the strength and speed of your strikes during combat. Make sure you attend to your needs. It is a survival mod afterall.
  • What should I do? Undergrowth is about freedom of movement and decision making. Go wherever you want, explore the forest and craft your own story of adventure and viceral fights. If you find a rabbit fort then go in there and see how you can help.
  • What are the effects of rain? Rain prevents you to get thirsty but also prevent illness to cure on its own. It also prevents tracking. So if you are pursued it is often a good idea to capitalize on rainy days to create some distance.
  • What are the effects of snow ? Primarly, snow means cold weather is there. You will need to seek shelter at one point to prevent freezing to death. The cold has some advantages though, for one it will slow down the effect of poison by 75%. It will also allow you and your enemies to track during night time.
  • What are the effects of nightime? Night time is dangerous in the Undergrowth. A terrifying creature named the Wendigo roams the forest at full moon. If it is in your area, you will have to stop completly and hide until the beast goes away. If you move, you will have to remain stealthy (skill check) or else the creature will head straight for you. Beside imminent death, winters can bring colder nigths so before heading out in the lone dark, make sure you are well rested and warmed up. Be advised that tracking is impossible at night unless there is snow on the ground. Lastly, thieves and robbers come out at night so stay sharp when running in the forest after bed time.
