Shaoshan 6 electric locomotive (SS6) is one of the electric locomotive models used by Chinese railways. It is the second batch of 4800kW six-axle electric locomotives purchased by the Ministry of Railways of the People’s Republic of China through international bidding in 1989, after the introduction of 6K electric locomotives to meet the needs of electrification of Longhai Railway. Shaoshan 6 electric locomotive is jointly developed by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Factory and Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute. It is a passenger and freight general electric locomotive based on the traditional design and manufacturing experience of Shaoshan 3 electric locomotive and combined with some advanced technologies of imported 8K electric locomotive.
