Description:

Sure, when the Peacekeepers are first introduced the organization is little more than a shack on an asteroid and a vaguely Orwellian job description. But by the time you’ve funneled enough "evidence" to Captain Noble to pawn off to afford a third space station, it feels like the righteous gasbag could spare a few thousand pixels to install a teleporter so you’re not burning fuel just to remind him that you shot a Fire Gleap in the face for a couple arcade tickets.

This mod forces Captain Noble to open his pixelpurse and do just that, installing teleporters in all Peacekeeper Stations starting from rank three! Teleporters function similarly to the 2-Stop and Ark teleporters, prompting a bookmark on first use. After that, you can freely rename or remove the bookmarks, teleport back to your bookmarked stations from any full-featured teleporter, and they work as full-featured teleporters themselves. All assets used (aside from the bookmark icon) are vanilla (yep, peacekeeperteleporter[starbounder.org] exists in the game assets as of 1.4 and is all coded up right, but was never actually used) and the mod is uninstall-safe.

This mod covers a few milestones for me:

  • First release of Tiled work.
  • First time patching existing dungeons.
  • First time finishing what Chucklefish st-hahaHAHAHA… OK, couldn’t finish that line without laughing.

Beyond the limitations below, the only known issue is that I may have misplaced a light here or there, so please report any "unable to place object" warnings that log; they’re harmless, but I hate them and will fix them.

LIMITATIONS

This mod works "out of the box" with all saves and will work with existing saves, but requires a little work on the players’ part if an affected station has been encountered before subscribing.

To get a teleporter to appear on existing stations (rank 3 and up):

  1. Move your ship away from the to-be-refreshed stations (remaining in the same system is fine, just don’t orbit a station to be safe).
  2. Save and exit Starbound.
  3. Back up your Storage folder.
  4. Inside your Universe folder, locate the files associated with your 3rd, 4th, and 5th (see notes below for 4th and 5th) Peacekeeper Stations. All Peacekeeper files will be named as "unique-spacestation_peacekeeper#-<randomhex>-1.world", where # is the rank of the station; for example, my rank 3 is "unique-spacestation_peacekeeper3-79c312aaba191158ba6d8dd6aab62afc-1.world".
  5. Delete the Peacekeeper Station files.
  6. Launch Starbound.
  7. Travel to one of the stations and never have to burn fuel again (until you have to move to a new station, naturally).

The first time you visit a station, a copy is saved to your universe and you will always visit that copy. By deleting its file, the game is forced to regenerate it next visit, using the now modded dungeon file. In the case of the 4th station, this will reset the state of the secret supply room (you get two more space box loots, yay). In the case of the 5th station, it’s slightly more dramatic. Instead of being a single dungeon file like the rest of the Peacekeeper Stations, for some bizarre reason the 5th is a randomly generated dungeon; once you’ve visited once, that form is saved and you will always visit that form; when you delete your copy, a new layout for that station will be generated and saved the next time you visit, but will then remain that layout until you delete the file again. This is unfortunately unavoidable.

Pre-emptive FAQ

Is this compatible with <insert mod name here>?
As long as the mod in question does not replace the vanilla Peacekeeper Station files, it is absolutely compatible. However, being that this is new territory for me, I cannot guarantee compatibility with mods that patch the Peacekeeper Station files as I’m really new to patching Tiled JSON.

Is this really uninstall safe?
Yeah, actually. Everything used here is vanilla, so unsubbing should cause no problems. Teleporters will remain in stations and remain fully functional after unsub, though the bookmark icons will blank and throw purely cosmetic log errors. To revert affected stations to vanilla, delete the bookmarks in-game and the station world files in your universe folder.

I’m already at <insert station rank> and I don’t see a teleporter. What gives?
Please read the mod description this time.

The layout of my final Peacekeeper Station changed! The hell did you do!?
Please read the mod description again, more thoroughly this time.

If you want help, be it with an issue actually originating from this mod or anything else, you must include a pastebin link to your complete starbound.log from the session that had an issue. Comments that demand help, only include a log snippet, or do not include a log at all will be ignored and/or deleted. And please, by all that’s decent, spellcheck your messages. If English isn’t your first language, I can understand machine (Google) translation better than I can spelling guesses.

You’re salty against Chucklefish.
Not a question. And yes, yes I am.
