While most soldier classes get their strength from learning tactical abilities, the Generic Soldier gets its strength from raw stats. With only a single perk-tree dedicated to the pistol, this class gets much higher general stat-bonuses than other classes do.

Most default classes – by the time they reach max rank – will have gained about +6 HP, and about +15 Offense. The Generic Soldier class will have (at max rank) +12 HP and +30 Offense.

Note that, bonuses are in addition to default "rookie" Soldier stats. Bonuses to Hacking and Will remain unchanged from that of other classes.

Generic Soldiers can still benefit from random "XCOM" abilities when the Training Center is unlocked.

1) Squaddie
New Ability = Fire Pistol — This is required in order to even use the pistol.
+36 Offense
+18 HP
+21 Defense

2) Corporal
New Ability = Sustain — When killed, survive at 1 HP and go into Stasis for 1 turn.
-1 Offense
-1 HP
-1 Defense — total reduced from +21 to +20

3) Sergeant
New Ability = Return Fire — Automatically get a free shot with your pistol when attacked, once per turn.
-1 Offense
-1 HP
-2 Defense — total reduced from +20 to +18

4) Lieutenant
New Ability = Lightning Hands — Take a shot with your pistol. Free action with a cooldown.
-1 Offense
-1 HP
-3 Defense — total reduced from +18 to +15

5) Captain
New Ability = Quickdraw — Pistol shots only cost 1 action and don’t end your turn.
-1 Offense
-1 HP
-4 Defense — total reduced from +15 to +11

6) Major
New Ability = Faceoff — Shoot your pistol once at every target within range.
-1 Offense
-1 HP
-5 Defense — total reduced from +11 to +6

7) Colonel
New Ability = Fan Fire — Take 3 pistol shots against a single target.
-1 Offense — final total is +30 (default classes have about +15 by now)
-1 HP — final total is +12 (default classes have about +6 by now)
-6 Defense — total reduced from +6 to +0

Safe to enable mid-campaign (however, it may take a while before they begin to show up, due to a ClassDeck already having been constructed by the game). This class will be available immediately in new campaigns.
