Coal Merchant Trucks (by JK)
Very large capacity fuel carrying lorry and horse-drawn wagon.
When houses were heated by coal fires, the railways delivered this to the towns and cities. Local coal merchants would distribute small quantities from the railways. Towns and cities also had Gas Works, which burnt coal to create ‘town gas’ that was piped to fuel heating and lighting in the vicinity.
