I am by no means a regular modder, I learnt how to make this mod for my own game and thought people would appreciate it. I’m glad a lot of you have enjoyed the mod, many thanks for all the praise (and critique). However, I will most likely not continue to update this mod any longer (if I even remember how!). Please feel free to take anything and expand, warp, manipulate, destroy, rebuild, as you wish.

DESCRIPTION

This mod is an attempt at a more realistic and more dynamic missile system. It makes edits to all small arms missiles (bows, javelins, etc) in the following ways:

ADJUSTED VELOCITY VALUES FOR ALL MISSILES

This is most notable on bows and gives the missiles a better (higher) firing arc, which looks more realistic and allows archers to fire over troops in front of them with ease. It also makes archers more effective at attacking castle walls as the higher trajectory allows the arrows to better avoid battlements.

NEW SHOT TYPE: VOLLEY SHOT

For all bows. Has a minimum range and reduced accuracy, but fires with an increased angle to avoid obstacles or friendly troops.

MISSILE RANGES REWORKED

Tweaked effective range for most missiles. Javelins have a slightly shorter range, bows have a greater range disparity between types (levy, elite, etc). This makes more elite archers really stand out over lower quality ones.

FIRE ARROWS

Fire arrows have had their range and reload speed reduced slightly.

JAVELINS CAUSE KNOCK-BACK

Javelins now have a very minor shockwave value, causing them to stagger troops when hit. This makes javelins a bit more unique, giving them the ability to disrupt enemy formations.

ARROWS REDUCE MOVEMENT SPEED

All arrows have been given the "sling_projectile" attribute from Attila’s slinger units. Units under fire now suffer a 25% reduction in movement/charge speed. This adds a ‘suppression’ utility to arrows and simulates the troops having to be extra cautious when being fired upon.

FIRE RATES SLIGHTLY INCREASED

All missiles have a slightly increased rate of fire, making them more useful for hit and run skirmishes.

VARIOUS OTHER MINOR TWEAKS

COMPATIBILITY

Compatible with any mod that does not alter projectiles.

– Reverted all damage values to vanilla values.

– Renamed ‘Arcing Shot’ to ‘Volley Shot’ and increased the spread of arrows for this shot type.

– Tweaked projectile damages, javelins now do significnatly more damage, fire arrows do less

– Added new shot type, "Arcing Shot" to bows in place of Whistling Shot, which was previously unused. Arcing shot forces archers to fire with a high arc to avoid obstacles or friendly troops, but with decreased accuracy and a minimum range of 80m. Tooltip changed to reflect this

– Tweaked accuracy of catapults. No more sniper catapults, long distance shots are much less accurate, but still effective against large masses
