HCP’s Athenai Rework: Wrath of Sparta

Welcome to the Athenai Rework, part of my Wrath of Sparta rework collection!

This mod overhauls the Athenai roster and gives it more unique gameplay! Athens is an empire at the start of the campaign, and poised to exert her influence across all of Hellas by land and sea. Her new roster offers several upgrade paths for default units, including an "Imperial" line of improved troops. The new Athens excels at skirmishing and marine warfare.

New units:

: upgrades from Light Cavalry: Protecting the flanks, patrolling the fields, securing the empire.

: T4 barracks: Take the beach, take the city, take the kingdom. Great empires are not maintained by timidity. For the glory of Athenai.

: upgrades from Hoplites: Longer spears, lighter armor, lighter shields; Iphicrates’ way!

: T4 barracks: These troops are equipped with unusually long blades, deadly javelins, and light shields, is this truly what the future of Hellenic warfare looks like?

: upgrades from Slingers: The sling is a weapon as old as civilization itself, with good reason. These men are well-learned in those reasons, and are delightfully deadly skirmishers.

: upgrades from Archers: It takes years to become proficient in the bow, perhaps a little personal protection is a good investment?

: T2 Port: "A little coin can convince them to plunder the other side’s vessels!"

: upgrades from Light Hoplites: Not slaves, but not citizens; not hoplites, but not levies…The free, non-citizen Metoikoi are an important source of manpower for the Athenian army, and are capable light troops.

: T3 Trade Market: Sentries? Yes. Slaves? Perhaps, but you’d be hard pressed to be able call one that with an arrow fastened in your neck! Born of the steppes and masters with the bow, these men can blot out the sun as well as any persian!

: T5 port: The pride of the Athenian navy, carried by monstrously large ships. Like the raging sea, these marines are tumultuous, uncomprimising, and demanding of respect.

: T1 barracks/military port/garrison unit: Ionian "Cleruchiai" serve as garrisons in the vast maritime Athenian Empire.

: Upgrades from Ionian Infantry: armed with maces, javelins & new thureos shields, these troops keep order in the colonies, and when required, serve as medium infantry.

: T4 barracks: Handheld siege weapons that fire bolts capable of piercing the strongest armor.

: T4 range: Dominate the battlefield late game with this terrifying weapon of war!

Notes:

– All greek factions can now construct the Slave Trader chain of buildings.
– Ionian Infantry are also available to the Ionian League.
– Corsairs are available to all factions except Sparta.
