Bretonnia 8th edition – Hero (Minstrel)
Lore background
Minstrels enjoy the advantage of guaranteed bed, board, and spending money, though in return they are expected to produce words and music as the patron demands (and some find the task of composing odes on the beauty of their patron’s spectacularly-plain spouse interferes unduly with their artistic freedom).
Though the life can hardly be described as hard, many Minstrels find themselves forced to become adventurers, having left their employment rather hurriedly following indiscretions with members of the family. They can walk into some of the most dangerous dens of cutthroats and come out unscathed (as long as they’re willing to provide free entertainment, of course).
In game:
The Minstrel is a spy type for the (not really populated) Bret hero pool. Specifically he is a mix of an assassin and a warrior priest battle prayers.
– 3 battle prayer abilities, 2 active 1 passive, aimed to boost infantry survivability
– replenishment as an embed and damage walls skill
– melee and high damage poison ranged attack
– stalk and vanguard
– choice of poison similar to DE Assassin at higher level
– tavern recruitment
buT iS tHis LoReFuLl?
Well, not really I guess. This hero isn’t in any WHFB afaik (it is a career in the WHRPG). but given the Brets hero state I took some liberties and decided it would fit well with the theme and that it’s not really a stretch the nobles would employ some assassins. So I went the classic bard way.
But why not a Faceless?
I see a faceless as a lord and I’m thinking about making a pack with Faceless lord and few brigand type units to round the roster and give Brets some variety. Might wait for game 3 though, since it would be again lot of work.
Suggestions, criticism, balance, bug finds etc.etc are welcomed as always but mainly, I hope you have fun and find the hero worth it 🙂
