Factions
English Kingdoms
  • Defena – Devon. Begins as a vassal of West Seaxe. Sandwiched between its overlord and fellow underling of Cerneu, it is the western extent of Anglo-Saxon rule in southern England.
  • Westmoringas – A moderately-sized Anglo-Saxon faction in the far north-west of England. Bordering Northleode in the north, Mierce in the south and Northymbre in the east. Uusally an early meal for the Danes in the hands of the AI.
  • Westernas – No, not Westeros. Begins as a vassal of Northleode. People who have played as Northleode will likely have come to despise this faction as it tends to drag its overlord into an early (turn 2 in most of my playthroughs) war with belligerent Strat Clut.

Viking Sea Vikings
  • Gallgoidel – Plays almost identically to Sudreyar. Located in an almost identical position and starts the game with very friendly relations.
  • Vedrafjordr – Starts bordering fellow Norse outpost and ally Veisafjordr. Plays rather similar to Dyflin in that time is of the essence to seize surrounding territory before your rivals can amass a powerful army.
  • Myrrborg – Not for the faint-hearted. Has all of the problems of Hlymrekr with the added challenge of starting as a vassal of Hlymrekr! You begin surrounded on all sides by Caisil and its vassal "muma’s". Like Hlymrekr, players below a veteran level should consider returning to the waves and seek to conquer lands overseas.
Great Viking Army
  • Bedeborg – Bedford. A small, landlocked faction with a rather challenging start as it borders both of the English heavyweights, West Seaxe and Mierce.
  • Hellirborg – Nottingham. One of the Five Boroughs of the Danelaw. A small, landlocked faction that borders Northymbre.
  • Veidrborg – Peterborough. A small, landlocked faction that borders East Engle.
Gaelic Kingdoms
  • Connacht – One of the larger of the Irish kingdoms. Starts the game in a relatively defensible position and has a distinct size advantage over most of its neighbours, making expansion relatively easy.
  • Ulaid – Stop! (you’ll get that when you see Ulaid’s faction symbol) Begins pushed up against the north-eastern coast of Ireland. Bordered by the powerful Aileach and its vassal, Airgialla.
  • Desmuma – The southernmost faction on the island of Ireland. It starts as a vassal of Caisil, being in the traditional lands of the ancient Kingdom of Munster. Other than its fellow vassalings, early opportunity for expansion is limited to the neighbouring Hlymrekr vassal Norse outpost of Myrrborg.
Welsh Kingdoms
  • Brechinauc – One of the smaller Welsh factions. Starts almost enveloped by 3 more powerful neighbours with only tiny Gwent to its east providing the possibility for easy expansion.
  • Dewet – Located in the far south-western corner of Wales, its small size doesn’t pose as much as a problem as it otherwise would. The peninsula on which it starts provides excellent protection by greatly limiting the number of potential fronts on which you must defend your tiny nation.
  • Gliwissig – Starts on the southern coast of Wales and, unlike its neighbours with their lions and dragons, sports an intimidating bushel of wheat for a faction symbol. Aside from Seisilwig to the west, its immediate neighbours are weaker and make for relatively easy early conquests. It starts as a vassal of West Seaxe.
