======
Overview.
======

This unit pack adds 12 desperately needed new units to the Arabian factions, in the Grand campaign and Custom battle. The units are recruitable by the AI. The default Arabian roster is extremely lacking, and playing as an Arabian faction if unlocked is boring because of the limited units and pointless buildings, and they are often a pushover to fight against too because of this. These new units are varied with different strengths, and spread out carefully across the Arabian building trees, such as Arabian Light Horse only being recruitable from the Light Cavalry barracks tree, or Arabian Lancers from the heavy cavalry barracks, etc. Many of the units are garrison units too, which increases Arabian settlements strength.

The mindset behind these unit designs was to create a series of units which feel neither generic nor extremely specific. They are units which you would expect desert cities to be able to recruit, and units which although not historical, you could imagine a more culturally and socially advanced arabian state creating, because you must remember that as soon as you start the campaign everything turns into an alternate reality. I tried to avoid creating very specific units, such as units specific to a certain city or temple, as it annoys me to see 20 units of a certain temple or a cities master guard, when that sort of thing would probably never happen.

On to the units themselves.

Arabian Archers
– An Archer unit was desperately needed by the Arabian factions. These archers are completely average, although naturally they’re resistant to heat and such, as are all these units for the record.

Arabian Trained Spears
– You can imagine these as the next step beyond levy spearmen, not amazing but not useless either, they are recruitable from the early game.

Arabian Champions
– These are the best melee units Arabia has to offer and are recruitable from the final infantry building. They are champions, Arabia had a culture of champion warfare, of single combat duels, these men are those veteran champions called up and grouped into combat units. Late game infantry, but they are available as a general unit from the start.

Bedouin Raiders.
– The bedouin have been in Arabia for thousands of years, their way of life was nomadic and military. To them, trade caravans were fair game and a respectable source of income. So they became very adept at swift raids on unsuspecting trade caravans. These are camel spearmen who are better than the regular camel spearmen, available from the early to mid game, they are fast and reliable. They are available from the Exotic cavalry tree.

African Imported Elephants.
– Being so close to Africa, it makes little sense that the Arabs couldn’t get Elephants in the default game. These are your standard war elephants, they are recruitable in the late game from the final Exotic Cavalry tree, and you will need to research elephant trading.

Arabian Heavy Lancers
– The heaviest cavalry Arabia has to offer, recruitable from the final heavy cavalry barracks, or as a general unit from the start. These are essentially just the Arabian version of Cataphracts.

Arabian Light Horse
– Arabian horses are famous for their speed and agility, and these horse skirmishers are no different. This unit is only available from the final light cavalry building. Why would horse skirmishers be such a late game unit? Because they’re very good, they’re very fast, well equipped, and are acceptable in melee. These aren’t your average horse skirmish units.

Arabian State units
– Arabian State Spearmen, Arabian State Swordsmen, Arabian State Cavalry, Arabian State Archers. These units represent what a more advanced Arabian society could come up with, a standardised professional army of state equipped and trained soldiers, the Arabian version of Roman legionaries if you will. These are your mid to late game infantry and cavalry. They are good reliable fighters with no particular specialisations other than their unit type.

Arabian Tribal Warriors
– Available from early on, these are the warriors and fighters of the tribes of Arabia, average in combat, but swift movers, these units are acceptable early to mid game infantry, and useful for filling gaps in your armies or front lines.

Naval versions of some units are also included, which give the Arabs stronger naval options.
