Description:

Hi guys, this is champLoo and I am presenting a project that is inestimably valuable: the UPC Project. A mod language compatibility project created by a guy I don’t know personally but whose effort i honor: Swiss Halberdier.
Further credits to DramaBelli for keeping the project alive after Swiss Halberdier’s disappearance, and, of course, Radious, for being co-manager and translator for so long!

Now, for those who sill don’t know what this mod does: it translates mods! And it is a WIP.

Why would mods need to be translated ? Well, unfortunately, when creating p.e. a unit, it is being done in english since the files being edited are for the english version only. All other languages have a special file with all the game’s translations in it, and this file is only available if you have your whole game set to the specific language. That means: french people will have their game in french, but when subscribing to a mod containing units with english names, the names don’t appear in the french game automatically. A simple way to solve this issue is updating the ‘special file’ I just mentioned.

However, a modder can’t translate his units’ names and descriptions into all the languages supported by this game. Therefore this very project has been created by Swiss Halberdier.

It requires a lot of work to translate all those lines of texts into different languages, and the project can only be kept alive by translators who do it voluntarily, people who offer a free service to the community, in order to makecertain mods available for hundreds of people in their native language. It is, simply said, a time consuming but honorable job made by these translators and everyone who contributed to this deserves respect.

So far the UPC contains 74 mods.

You can find the list of the supported mods and translators on the mod’s twcenter frontpage:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?621968-Unit-Pack-Compatibility-Rome-2-(UPC-ROM)-updated-07-05-2014

As you can also see we need translators for some languages, since recently the list of contributors has been unsteady…

You can download the UPC files here:

How to install?
Simply download the UPC file you need, unzip it (using winrar, 7zip or whatever), and then place the file (p.e. UPC_German) ino your rome2/data folder (…SteamAppscommonTotal War Rome IIdata).

Simple as that.

Is the mod compatible with other mods?
Yes, it is. Just make sure you don’t have more than one UPC file in your data folder…

Why doesn’t the UPC project support this and that mod?
Either do we randomly choose some mods to translate nor do we try to translate everything that is being released. We only support mods whose authors have asked for it (kindly)

Why do some units’ names appear in english?
Because they haven’t been translated yet.

Is it up-to-date with patch 12?
Yes, we try to keep it always up-to-date. With most patches CA adds some more lines which then we need to add to the UPC file.

What about beta patches?
This has always been an issue. The beta patches mostly contain the new lines which will be implemented in the next game version, however, our files will be kept updated with the STABLE (non-beta) patches. What does that mean? It means that if you have the beta patch some elements of the game won’t appear in your language of choice, they will simply be invisible. We recommend you not to complain about that since you need to understand that we can only keep our files available for either those people who keep the stable, older patch, or the others who want the beta. We by default choose the stable one.

"When will you have mod xyz translated alredy?! >:-("
As mentioned above, this project is made by people who voluntarily do it for the community. If any translation seems odd or incomplete, then we are not to blame for it. In the past there have been many douches complaining about unnecessary stuff and in general the community is not too grateful … which is not acceptable due to the fact that we are not forcing anyone to download the translations. Either will we push ourselfs to serve anyone who wants us to rush things.

How can i become a translator?
I’m glad you ask… Just leave a comment and we will contact you.
