ECM KADATH
The ECM Kadath is a Jove Model 16 Patrol Vessel. It was designed by Jove Mineral Extraction to sell to far-flung and vulnerable mining operations to fend off hostile raiders and abyssal creatures. The Model 16 was regarded as an excellent choice at a reasonable cost, and dozens of hulls were sold to settlements from the Cold Caverns to the Aphotic Plateau. The Model 16 was updated several times, and had a 7-block upgrade cycle. After the Block 6 Model 16s received lukewarm interest from prospective buyers due to the increasing availability of the newer and cheaper Humpback, Jove introduced the Block 7 with new features and a decreased pricetag to undercut the Humpback. Due to production setbacks, however, the Block 7s were cancelled after the first sub, which is now on the market as the ECM Kadath.
The Kadath has received significant upgrades compared to the Block 6 Model 16s, including:
– Hostile creature detection grid
– Archon 2.0 security mainframe (password is Vi0lence!)
– Improved CCTV array
– Alien artifact containment
– GROWLER MKIIA nuclear torpedo
– Improved readouts
– Power grid integrity monitoring
– Moonpool
The Kadath boasts a fearsome ship-to-ship armament, including:
– x3 independent pulse lasers
– x2 pulse lasers configured in a forward battery
– Motion-triggered electric defense grid
– Manually triggered electric defense grid
– GROWLER MKIIA nuclear torpedo
– x1 hardpoint
Special thanks to Doomich and Astraltor for taking a look at the ship before I published it.
The ship itself is based on the Shinano Patrol Craft from starbound.
Bright. Blue. Cutting through the icy murk at 41 knots. A flickering light illuminates the words "ECM CENTAUR" on its prow. A blood red lance pierces the dark, followed immediately by a second. The twin red beams miss the bow by a hair’s breadth. The Centaur’s helm sniffed the telemetry burst from its pursuer’s guns a split second before they fired. It would have been over but for the Centaur’s superior maneuvering.
Its assailant is sleek, predatory, and red. Kadath is its name, and it is hungry. The outdated pulse battery in its prow is bathed in crimson as it prepares another one-two punch to send the smaller sub to the seabed. Another shot, another near miss. The pulse battery is charged again, but the captain of the Centaur won’t be dodging it this time. A streak of black and orange hurtles out from under the Kadath, its high output engines frothing the water in its wake. The Centaur momentarily pulses its engines to disrupt the seeker tracking. It cannot maneuver. The pulse battery burns bright.
The impact cuts deep through the starboard side of the Centaur. With its quarry listing on stalled engines, the Kadath moves in for the kill.
