Other things i cant remember
1893, two men, benjamin and Gregory start a logging company in West Virginia, they started by dragging the logs to the site and it was only the two of them. Fast forward to a week later, they hire some employees, Timothy, Matthew, Jonah, and Elliot. All of them beg the owners to sign a railroad contract so they didn’t have to break their backs dragging logs along the forest for 3 miles and back. The owners do, and buy 2 locomotives, one of them was bought in January of 1891, “Sheryl”, named after Benjamin’s wife. Sheryl was built by the H.K. Porter company, and was brought to the facility. Due to the small amount of logs in the area around February to may, they had to expand the track, they did successfully. Fast forward 2 years, 1894, another locomotive was purchased by them, named “June”, after the month it was built. They were so successful they had enough money to build another facility in 1898, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fast forward to 1900, they had made over a million dollars in logging and passenger services, that they built a 3rd facility on the border of West Virginia and Tennessee, The gold rush had started and they needed another locomotive. They bought one in britian, and Matthew had named it after him. The engine worked in the mines for over 10 years, then, WW1 hit, and they needed more locomotives. They bought one from Australia and the worker “Elliot” had named it after him. The war passed, and they proceeded the operations like they normally did. Sheryl and june, getting older, they had to make the decision to let them cool down for a couple of years. The Great Depression hit and they needed more money, so they expanded track into eastern Illinois and to Georgia. After that, they needed 2 engines to fill in Sheryl and june for a while. “Timothy” and “Jonah” were there to name their engines, Gregory and Benjamin, being old, passed away in the mid 40s due to cancer. The employees took their job, and hired more, and Sheryl, benjamins wife, had told her sons and daughters, and they got to work, Timothy, being the only diesel, Was taking the frieght services and then around 1960, they bought 6 more diesels, put the logo on them and didn’t name them. They were all F9 units. Ex ATSF. Then around 1980, jonah hit the gang with June, Matthew, Sheryl. The railway was all diesel until they purchased some electric locomotives from the Virginia railroad, then in 1990 the engines from the old times were doing excursions and tours of the old factories. (There were more added over TN and VA. They only did one though. The original. The railway has been preserved and the diesels and electricals were replaced by more modern locomotives. The railway grew on, and it is more successful than ever.
