French and Germans improved
French and German cultures improved
Version 1.3.1
Attempts to improve the cultural setup in central Europe.
Adds a clear distinction between the Latin and Germanic cultures within the Frankish Empire.
This mod is currently meant to be used for the 769 scenario, it might have effects on the other scenarios which were neither intended or tested.
Needs the Charlemagne DLC.
Details:
– the French culture now exists from the beginning of the game, they represent the Latin-language peoples, including the originally frankish rulers that were assimilated into the latin culture
– the Frankish culture is now used exclusively for germanic-speaking peoples of the Frankish Empire, i.e. the original germanic-speaking Franks.
– the Frankish culture will convert to German culture, this will represent the introduction of the term "Diutisk/German" for the germanic-speaking Franks inside the empire around 800.
– new cultures "Alemanni", "Bavarian" – germanic cultures that will convert to German culture if their top ruler is German. This will represent the extension of the term "Diutisk/German" onto other germanic peoples under frankish rulership, in the period between 800 and 1000.
– events that create the culture "Dutch" were removed, historically these peoples considered themselves just as "Diutisk" as all the other germans, the Dutch ethnogenesis happened after their split from the HRE, after Charles V stepped down in 1558
– all culture shift events are bound to the culture shift game setting (Faster melting pots)
– kingdom "Frisia" renamed to "Low Francia", the frisians were (are to this day) coast dwellers who were less likely to form a kingdom than their low franconian neighbors
– changed de-jure borders – Low Francia is roughly the modern Netherlands, the flemish region of Belgium and Luxemburg, i.e. the region where low franconian languages are spoken to this day
– De-jure Empire of Germany now includes the Kingdom of Low Francia (Frisia) and represents the germanic-speaking areas of mainland Europe
– local rulers in Neustria / West Francia start as French-cultured people, while the Karolingian brothers stayed frankish, to add some historically authentic spice to the relations between a germanic ruler and latin vassals
– Minor de-jure changes on the Alsace-Lotharingian border
