Description:

Survival Essentials adds a number of items to the default start to keep a new player dropped into the world alive. But keeps the ‘cost’ factor that the vanilla game establishes from the beginning.

I have changed the small shack and the research bench to use stone instead of building materials since stone is easier to come by. And you don’t have to process it.

The stone mine I changed to require raw iron to build, rather than stone. Because anyone building an item, shouldn’t require what that item produces in order to make it. Iron is also readily available usually and so we avoid the need to have stone to make stone issue.

The Stone processor now requires 3 raw iron instead of building materials and the torch as well.

The camp bed still requires a sleeping bag, but I have added a second bed, the camping bed that requires sticks and leaves to build, and have provided a gathering bowl to get the sticks and leaves for it. The gathering rate is somewhat slow to balance out that it is essentially free. But the iron and copper deposits in the game do the same thing.

In addition I have added, just for interest and flavor a way to gather flint rocks that can be added with sticks and leaves to make a campfire. Though I have left the original campfire that requires nothing still in the build menu. I thought it was fun to make a campfire and see the character bring it to life.

Water has become much more important by using it as an ingredient in a number of things to process them.
For gathering green moss, that is used as a home made healing compress.
For luring out green lizards which are in abundance almost everywhere in Kenshi as a low level food source, they can be eaten raw for 10 nu, or cooked in lizard oil (grease from cooking lizards over a fire) and that oil increases the nu of roasted lizards to 20 nu.

There is a way to gather loose stones for areas (like Dreg) that have almost no stone resources at all. But it does take some time to have the character gather it.

I’ve included a Nomad Tent with camp bed built in and also a Market tent that is buildable with fabrics that the player can get to after they have done some research and gotten a way to produce fabrics from hemp and acquired a loom.

I have included a storage barrel for the camp or on the go storage. The storage is generic, so the barrels will store anything. I also included a sitting pillow for outside use, but it also has to be crafted from fabrics.

In addition I made some minimal changes to the farm-ability and water levels in Dreg so that the soil isn’t a hundred percent dead. You can farm now, but only minimally, about 20-30 percent yield.

I hope you enjoy it and happy camping out there!
