Description:

Kings and Conquerors: The Hellenistic Era is a total conversion modification for Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots. Our aim is to bring the Hellenistic period to life.

Important notes – please read before you start a new game!

⦁ Please put this mod to the top of the priority list in the in-game workshop menu to avoid any compatibility issues with other downloaded mods.
⦁ When setting up a quick battle, you will need to list the human players before the AI players, otherwise you might find the computer auto-building units for you.
⦁ This mod comes with an auxiliary script that handles features like army reforms, mercenaries and upkeep. It’s called "The_Hellenistic_Era" and you can find it in the custom script drop-down when setting up a new game.
⦁ Due to increased map sizes, the following maps do not work with the Big Huge or Huge map sizes and will cause the game to crash:

  • Atlantic Sea Power
  • East Meets West
  • Nile Delta

⦁ The starting age needs to be set to either Gunpowder, Enlightenment or Industrial in order for the new units and buildings to appear properly.
⦁ The mod will likely be more demanding on your computer given the script and new unit models. If you are having issues, I would recommend either lowering the population limit or the number of players when setting up a new game

Version 0.2 Features

⦁ Added 3 stages of national development to replace the vanilla ages: Nationhood (Gunpowder Age), Centralisation (Enlightenment Age) and Sovereignty (Industrial Age).
⦁ Fight out the Kleomenean war with an all-new custom scenario, which you can download here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1749258440
⦁ Ten playable factions, most of which have at least one unique unit:

  • Romans (replacing Turks)
  • Macedonians (replacing Romans)
  • Seleucids (replacing Bantu)
  • Ptolemaic Egyptians (replacing Egyptians)
  • Epirotes (replacing French)
  • Chremonidean League (replacing Persians)
  • Achaean League (replacing Americans)
  • Pergamenes (replacing Greeks)
  • Bactrians (replacing Chinese)
  • Pontics (replacing Germans)

⦁ New wonders of the world, including the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus and the Pergamon Altar
⦁ A number of new units, including hypaspists and Spartan hoplites
⦁ New unit types, such as priests, levies, assassins, mercenaries and elite units.
⦁ Governments have been replaced with three tiers of policy decisions, providing an array of bonuses and unlocking new units and buildings.
⦁ As the Chremonidean League, see what happens when you research Despotism 😉
⦁ Army reforms can be enacted to upgrade and unlock units; Hellenistic reforms now have greater depth.
⦁ Combat mechanics overhauled. Ranged units may now miss their target, flanking damage has been drastically increased and units can no longer turn around instantly to counter an attack from behind.

Where to from here?

I’m sorry to say, but is the last update to the Hellenistic Era I’ll personally be putting out. It’s been almost nine years since I made my first mod for this game (it’s still up on Rise of Nations Heaven!), so I figured it was about time I moved on. There is however a ‘fan-fork’ of sorts being developed by Robur Velvetclaw (who has contributed to this mod from the very beginning), which you can get here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1314116881.

Velvetclaw’s mod has many more playable factions and heaps of new unit and building art, though it may be missing core features or content that I specifically developed for this latest release. So you might as well try out both!
