Su una produzione totale di 510 veicoli commissionati nel 1973, l’Italia ne ha acquisiti 103, suddivisi in tre prototipi fuori serie, 30 prima classe e 70 seconda classe.
Le 500 unità di serie furono acquisite dalle DB, FS, ÖBB, SNCF con 100 carrozze ciascuna, dalle FFS con 20 carrozze tutte di 1ª classe, e dalle SNCB con 80 carrozze.
Le Eurofima sono carrozze specifiche per il traffico a lunga percorrenza, che nelle intenzioni dei costruttori dovevano andare a sostituire le UIC-X più vecchie nei treni internazionali più prestigiosi.
La realizzazione di questa famiglia di carrozze deriva dalla necessità di elevare il livello di standard nella composizione dei treni a lunga percorrenza in servizio internazionale.
Il consorzio Eurofima definì una serie di criteri per la realizzazione di una nuova famiglia di vetture di elevata qualità, sia in prima che in seconda classe, verso la quale andava il 70% delle preferenze della clientela. La velocità massima doveva essere nell’ordine dei 200 km/h.
Intorno agli anni 2000, la maggior parte delle carrozze ricevette una radicale trasformazione: al fine di aumentare il numero di posti a sedere, la disposizione delle sedute a scompartimenti venne trasformata con lo scopo di ottenere un ambiente a salone.
Tutte le vetture di prima classe vennero declassate, con disposizione degli interni identica alle vetture di seconda.
Non ci sono informazioni precise riguardo alle ultime eurofima ancora in servizio.

Eurofima coaches were bought, in Italy, in a total number of 103 units, divided into three custom-built prototypes, 30 first class and 70 second class.
The 500 series units were acquired by the DB, FS, ÖBB, SNCF with 100 coaches each, by the SBB with 20 carriages all 1st class, and by the SNCB with 80 carriages.
The Eurofima are specific wagons for long-distance traffic, which in the intentions of the manufacturers were to replace the older UIC-X in the most prestigious international trains.
The creation of this family of carriages was needed to raise the level of standards in the consists of long-distance trains for international service.
The Eurofima consortium defined a series of criteria for the creation of those wagons, both in first and second class, towards which 70% of customer preferences went. The maximum speed was to be in the order of 200 km/h.
In the 2000s, most of the carriages received a radical transformation: in order to increase the number of seats, the arrangement of the compartment seats was transformed with the aim of obtaining an open space environment.
All first-class cars were downgraded, with the interior layout identical to the second-class cars.
There are no precise informations regarding the last Eurofimas still in service.
