Description:

TL;DR
This mod adds cooked versions of the MEC voices from XCOM: Enemy Within.

Overview

Each voice has just over 500 lines except for MEC Male 1 who has about 45 less. Watch the rant video for details on that.
Voice Patcher support, get it >here<.

Voices are available for normal soldiers, faction heroes, and SPARKs (Original mod only supported normal soldiers).
The voices should only randomly appear on SPARKs, not soldiers or faction classes.
The voices are not affected by attitudes.

No idea if this works without WotC as it was made in the WotC SDK. Tell me if it doesn’t.

Detailed Explanation

The following is a list of issues with the original mod. Keeping it brief:

  1. Does not use Robojumpers voice script.
  2. Many voice events are not covered. Even ones that may have contextually fitting lines.
  3. Some of the events that ARE covered do not have contextually fitting lines.
  4. SPARKs cannot use the voices.
  5. MEC Male 1 uses the broken voice lines (see the rant video for context).
  6. Not cooked

And here’s a non-comprehensive list of features of this mod:

  • Built from scratch with Robojumpers voice script.
  • Modified line distribution so that as many events have lines as possible while still being thematically fitting.
  • The voices are available for everyone.
  • MEC Male 1’s broken lines have been filtered out.
  • Voice Patcher support, many lines that were previously unable to be used like ‘JetBoots’ and ‘KineticStrikeEnemy’ are now used. Akimbo and some LW2 abilities are also supported. Get the Voice Patcher mod for it.
  • Cooked
  • Includes seemingly unused lines that aren’t in the original EW game files and are only available in the XCOM 2 Editor. The addition of these clips adds about 47 additional lines. For those curious, the lines were labelled ‘GainingElevation’, ‘GenericResponse’, ‘KineticStrikeTerrain’, and ‘OrderConfirmed’.

If you want specifics, voice events that now have lines that didn’t before are:

  • Grappling Hook
  • Evac
  • Loot Spotted and Loot Obtained
  • Run & Gun
  • Serial/Reaper
  • Scanning Protocol (and Battle Scanners)
  • Nearly every event that involves firing a weapon (Rupture, Rapid Fire, Lightning Hands, etc.)
  • Concealment Broken
  • All heavy weapons (Flamethrowers have special lines)
  • Melee Attacks (Voice Patcher Only)
  • Icarus Jetpack (Voice Patcher Only)
  • Shield Wall (Voice Patcher Only)
  • many more

And while this may turn people away, I like knowing what I’m getting into, so I’ll also list out the voice events that aren’t supported both in this mod and the other one.
Voice events NOT supported:

  • Objective Spotted
  • Skulljack Success & Failure
  • Burning from Acid
  • Burning from Fire
  • Poisoned
  • Disoriented
  • Mind Controlled

Hacking and Psionic abilities are technically supported but they use very generic ‘Affirmative’ lines.

Unnecessarily long Q&A

How do I know you covered as many cues as possible with as many fitting lines as possible?
Well you can’t, because I can’t be completely sure either. But I can spent a lot of time just continuously listening to the same lines waiting for a ‘eureka’ moment where I know exactly where a line could fit. Not exactly the most time-compressive work ethic, but it works for me, and this is just a hobby anyway. If anybody that shares the same insane VA line obsession as me has any suggestions on where a line might fit, I’m open to them.

Will you cook Legacy Voices Redux?
A difficult question because the main reason I was able to cook this mod is because of the handy template that does most of the work for you. The easiest way for me to cook Legacy Voices Redux may be to just make it a completely new mod, which I know some people wouldn’t like, including myself. Going to put that project on indefinite hiatus.

What’s with the Soldier 76 voice in the screenshots?
A project that is also on indefinite hiatus thanks to the existence of >this mod<. I may finish it and make it public one day because my version gives them a radio filter and has a special variant like the characters in my Legacy Voices Redux mod.

Well then, what’s with the Big Sky voice in the screenshots?

If you made this from scratch, why are you still crediting Plumse?
Two reasons:
1. Because I probably would not have had the motivation to make this if it wasn’t already made, ironically.
2. Because people will inevitably cancel me for stealing their idea (which I guess I kind of did).

You ruined the novelty of the voices!
That’s not a question, and this mod is for people that want to hear the voices more often while still letting the lines thematically fit each cue.

This game is 8 years old, why are you still playing it?
I ask myself that question every day, and have come to the simple conclusion that this game is eternal.

Robojumper for their voice script
Aquilio for their Voice Patcher mod
Plumse for making the original mod

Cannot find who voiced the MECs but they’re probably pretty cool.
