Description:

A version of Ancient Religions Reborn (originally made by Stormweaver) updated for CleanSlate, with additional content from Pagan Papal (optional, originally made by Lajos Tueur), More Pagan Branches (optional, originally made by Plati), No Doctrine Bonus Overwrite (originally made by Scurek), & Ancestor Veneration Fixed (originally made by [Ba-El] Radio)

Changes from original Ancient Religion mod:

  • Haruspicy & Astrology are inherent to all Hellenistic faiths, not just the two from vanilla
  • All bloodlines, events, & decisions I could find that only allow Hellenic & Reformed Hellenic also work for Promethean/Titan Cult
  • Celtic faiths unlock Tanistry
  • Titan Worshippers get human sacrifice
  • Characters who have a legendary bloodline favored by warrior lodges can see & join lodges belonging to other religions
  • Egyptian characters who restore the Empire of Greater Egypt will found a new bloodline
  • The Ancient Egyptian & pre-Roman Gallic cultures are restorable; you won’t need to use the ruler designer or hope for the right Immortal Mystic to appear.
  • Haruspicy is inherent to Celtic paganism; Clans of the Dannu gives monasticism instead. Additionally, Clans of the Dannu gains the Animist morale bonus
  • Characters are less likely to get the exact same warrior lodge bloodline multiple times in a row

Weaker unique religion features from vanilla were buffed; specifically:

  • Survivor of Ukko gives Meritocracy in addition to Stability & conversion resistance
  • Children of Perun gives the full effects of Seafaring, not just river movement
  • Defenders of Dievas gives the full effects of Ancestor Worship & Animism, in addition to conversion resistance
  • Dawnbreakers gives Meritocracy in addition to Divine Marriage & Polygamy

New Features! (as of 5/1/2022)

  • An investiture system for non-Catholics; Reformed Pagans with hierocratic [or Zoroastrians, Jews, Britannics, & Prometheans after their religion head has been restored, or Manichaeans after the formation of the Army of Light] can ask their religion head to appoint a character of their choice as the next landed priest in the realm; when a priest position opens up, the appointed successor will get the temple & any titles attached to it. If you have Free Investiture, you don’t need to ask the religion head for permission, you can simply appoint successors yourself. Furthermore, since Caesaropapism, the subjugation of the Church to the State, is an essential element of the Eastern Orthodox church which is not represented in-game- giving an Orthodox Byzantium less power over their own church than a Catholic Rome with Free Investiture- Orthodox & Miaphysite Christians, & Reformed Pagans with autocephalous, may appoint successors to temples as if they were Catholics with Free Investiture (though unlike Catholics/Hierocratic Pagans, it costs piety scaled with the priest’s rank & upsets the Patriarch); you can even ensure the next Patriarch (or Archdruid, or Fylkyr, etc.) is a handpicked sycophant!
  • No Doctrine Bonus Overwrite & Ancestor Veneration Fixed have been integrated into the mod.
  • The button to check venerated ancestors does not appear if you don’t have ancestor worship, even if the game is modded to give ancestor worship to other doctrines; as such, if your religion head exists, there is a decision to show you all venerated ancestors for your current religion.

All changes should be save-game compatible.

Fully compatible with Seduction & Romance Revamped for CleanSlate, Chinese Caliphates for CleanSlate, Cybrixkhan’s Immersion Packs for CleanSlate, Culture, Building, & Retinue Tweaks for CleanSlate, Cities of Wonders for CleanSlate, Warrior Societies for CleanSlate, Jewish Kings & Jewish Immersion for CleanSlate, & with any other CleanSlate mods I put out in the future.

Known Bugs:

  • A non-Catholic College of Cardinals will only sometimes use their unique, correct name.

Known Issues:

  • In order to get non-Catholic investiture to work right, I had to transfer the priestly titles the instant before the priest dies; as such, if you want to try a strategy where you, for example, always appoint your brother as Head of Religion, he won’t technically have those titles when he dies, & so they won’t contribute to dynastic prestige.
