Description:

A rotating, electromechanical civil defense siren.

The ACA Hurricane is a civil defense siren that makes use of a 30 h.p. blower to help it produce 130 dB of sound at 100 feet. This was a low production siren, and fewer than 10 are known to be still in service. This siren was effective on paper with its impresssive sound output, which was 3 dB more that its competitor, Federal Signal’s Thunderbolt. Unfortunatley, it had many factors that went against it. It was low production, which meant that there was a lack of parts in circulation. On top of that, there was no aftermarket for these parts due to their low demand. These units were also not very reliable compared to other models, because of its high complexity. It was not very versatile, because it could only produce 2 signals.

Production: 1968 – 1973 (Square projector) 1973 – 1981 (Round projector)
