Bretonnian Ogres-At-Arms
8/10/2023 update: added an ogre recruitment building chain. It costs 2/3/5 chivalry per turn to maintain, but also increases income from farming due to the added local security that the presence of ogres provides.
8/9/2023 update: added Ogre Squires (Shieldbearers), redid unit models, tweaked stats.
Every honorable Bretonnian knows that hiring ogre mercenaries is most unchivalrous, and frowned upon by all honorable nobles. Every Bretonnian lord, however, has the right to levy peasants from his land to serve as men-at-arms. To solve this former problem, some of the more…inventive nobles among the peerage have begun exploiting a loophole wherein they grant ogres plots of land, then levy them as peasants in their armies. This practice is met with widespread scorn, but the battlefield results are undeniable.
This pack includes:
4 new units for Bretonnia;
-Ogres-At-Arms, a variant of ogre bulls meant to serve as early shock troops or mixed among your infantry to increase the killing power of your front line.
-Ogres-at-arms (Hammers), wielding a two-handed hammer and intended to provide early armor-piercing damage
-Ogre Squires (Lances), a dedicated heavy shock infantry with anti-large and a charge bonus to rival any knight.
-Ogre Squires (Shieldbearers), a heavy defensive infantry unit with a huge shield that provides missile block chance to nearby allies, best incorporated into a peasant frontline to add staying power.
The ogres are recruitable at level 3 and level 4 barracks respectively, and count as peasants for all technology effects. They do not receive leadership bonuses from nearby knights, to represent the tensions between the two groups.
COMING SOON: an Ogre Quartermaster hero class, and a special legendary hero based on a certain Total War content creator.
