Description:

One of the legion of unique diesel locomotive designs that found itself in use on British Railways in the mid-20th century, these units used a diesel-hydraulic transmission instead of diesel electric traction like much of the rest of BR’s diesel fleet.
58 of these units would be built between 1959 and 1962. Initially they were plagued by reliability issues, and although these were mostly fixed by 1961 the manufacturer, North British Locomotive Works, had gone bankrupt. Ultimately, the fleet’s withdrawal began in 1967, with all units withdrawn for scrapping by 1972. No units exist today, merely photographs and enthusiasts who wish to try and recreate a Class 22 from the ground up.

Perhaps these peculiar, yet relatively nice looking units will find more love in your glorious Republic, Comrade?

This is my first effort at modding for the glorious Republic, hopefully it doesn’t disappoint!
Most of the work I’ve done to build this in game has been based on either blueprints floating around online or reference photos, not an awful lot of which exist. If I’ve missed anything major, which is possible, I’d welcome resources to help improve the mod.

This is the first of hopefully many mods that I intend to put together- in future, with the exception of the mods others are creating to recreate other iconic members of the British Rail ensemble, I intend to try and cover as many classes of locomotive as possible, starting with these early units in the 1950s and working as far as the dying days before privatisation in 1994.

Early work will be mostly on diesel and electric locomotives, though I’ve certainly got an eye out to potentially work on the (in)famous Class 14x Pacers. Muahahahaha.
