Description:
The Lore

Karak Azul, also known as Iron Peak, is a hold located in the south of the Worlds Edge Mountains, and is the only southern kingdom still ruled by the Dwarfs. Unlike other holds, the upper portion of Karak Azul occupies an entire plateau overlooking the valley and road below. Karak Azul is the only southern Dwarf-hold to have withstood the greenskin armies that surged from the Dark Lands. The spectacular fireworks display of the volcanic Fire Mountain (Karag Haraz) can be seen from the southern towers.

The Map

Karak-Azul it’s a medium-big dwarf siege map. It’s an old dwarven hold, with some parts destroyed by the time, but with stronger defenses than other holds. Also, it has the most complex steam system working (the one in Zhufbar is still under construction). The hold is divided in four sections:

  • The Meatgrinder: to assault the walls of the hold, first you need to reach them, and this section will cause you losses. Heavy losses. From the attackers starting position up too the walls, these two ramps will slow your advance to the point your attack can end before even reach the walls.
  • The Second Meatgrinder: even if you somehow manage to reach the walls,… Surprise! There is another wall. This area is located between the inner and the outer wall, and some well placed ranged units can destroy here even the biggest army, if they are played well. Luckily for the attacker, the inner wall is not in his best shape and some parts of it are currently destroyed, like the gates.
  • The Southern Hill: this hill is an elevation connecting both interior meatgrinders with the hold itself. Artillery or ranged units placed here can cover all the map and wreak havok amongs the enemy. Also, here is located one of the three Capture Points.
  • The Hold: located from the inner walls up to the Iron Peak, the inner hold is the… exterior of Karak Azul. It’s maze of streets with two big squares, with one Capture Point each of them.

As you can guess, you only need to capture two of the three capture points to win, so you can choose: lose many troops trying to capture the central plaza and the hill, or lose many troops trying to capture the hold itself. No matter what you do, you will need a lot of trops to take this fortified dwarven hold.
Also, as part of the defenses, the two outer gates are…. specially fortified with ancient steam techniques and the help of Hans and his flammenwerfer.

How to play

You can play this map in two modes:

  • Land battle: Select the map from the "Land Battle" maps in custom battle. Easier to play in multiplayer, but you will not have siege equipement and the capture points do nothing.
  • Siege battle: Select the map from the "Siege Battle" maps in custom battle (It’s called "Karak Azul, the Iron Peak", with a CA logo). A bit harder to play it in multiplayer because the other guys need to download the map first, but you can use siege equipement and the capture points work.

The FAQ
  • It’s too hard for the attacker!: It’s supposed to be too hard for the attacker. In custom battle the defender can use a 30% less money than the attacker. So… Git Gud!

The Media

You know, videos and stuff (many thanks to everyone who did this):

The Credits
  • Frodo45127: I did the map.
  • Maruka: He did the "Karak Azul" emblems you can see in the gates and in some banners.
  • Multiple mappers from the GCCM mod: They gave me… inspiration.

Donations

My maps are and will always be free but, if you are interested in supporting me with money, here is a donation button. I seriously doubt I get any donations, but if I do, all will go to buy me the DLCs I lack (currently, Wood Elfs and Beastman, and probably Norsca because I have yet to get money to reserve Warhammer 2….). Anyway, here’s the button:
