Devoid: Apollyon Rework
This Apollyon rework centralises around making the character more fun to play by introducing a new gimmick to the character, and changing the void active item to both be less complicated usage whilst also tying in with the new gimmick.
Apollyon now starts with an innate ability named "Call of the Void", that enables him to spawn portals when damaging enemies. On their own, these portals can spawn a random number of purple flies to aid the player in combat, which deal 1.5x the player’s damage. However, the player is also able to spawn various stronger portals that summon harbinger locusts – the chance of these spawning can only be increased by voiding items which match the theme of each harbinger.
I also highly recommend playing this with the External Item Descriptions mod, as it will highlight items which increase the chance of specific locust portals appearing when voided.
Void’s new functionality is solely centred around generating stat boosts for the player, with the active item gimmick being removed. Now, Apollyon is able to generate stat boosts by voiding both passive and active items. Additionally, tweaks have been made to the amount of stats provided by void; the value of each stat boost has been lowered, but the number of boosts generated from one item will scale using the quality system (with Quality 0 giving 1 boost, up to Quality 4 giving 5).
Apollyon now has a starting damage stat of 3.00 (1.00 * 3.50 – 0.50). This is both to encourage players to utilise the Void active to generate more stats, and to balance the character’s expanded kit as the player’s overall DPS will still remain high at the start of runs.
