Description:

Spread the blight… Spread it everywhere!

Now in v1.1.0! (see full patch notes)

CLASSIFIED
This living entity of unknown origin was originally mistaken with the unicellular earth creature known as blob as they share the same color and spread pattern. However further testing revealed that the blight has some unique properties. Like the blob it consumes nearby materials, but under certain stimulus, it is able to convert material into more blight! And in extreme conditions some high rate cloning of the blight have been observed.

Big thanks to Dzage for the awesome gun model and animations, and to Thomasims for the color palette edition functions 😉

TOOLS
– Blight Gun: You can shoot blight and control it.

KEYBOARD CONTROLS
[LeftClick]: Shoot Blight.
[MiddleClick]: Set Blight target.
[L]: Remove Blight at cursor.
[K]: Remove all Blight.
[O]: Open options menu.

CHARACTERISTICS
– Blight is composed of physical objects that can be destroyed.
– Blight will move to the closest loose object or to the target you gave them.
– Blight will slowly eat matter around it (durability of materials consumed can be customized).
– Blight parts may regroup into a larger blight entity.
– Blight size and texture can be customized in the options.
– Want more Blight in the world? There an option for that too (use at your own risk :p).
– Some fun experimental features are available in the options, be warned that they may lag your game pretty bad or even crash it when you use them.
— The splash option allow Blight to convert nearby materials into its own material (allowing to break even unbreakable materials).
— The trail option leave a trail of dead Blight behind, resulting in more nasty looking creatures when lots of Blight clump together.

KNOWN BUGS
– Blight may not always physics too well.
– You may encounter some weird floating objects after Blight interacted with something.
– Blight may explode and be catapulted all over the map.
– Blight may push items instead of sticking to them.
– When splash option is active, colors on some objects may become glitchy (full black or painted blight color).
– When trail option is active, some weird long bars of Blight may be generated when Blight elements are moving too fast.

Yet another Hungry Slime / Corrupted Crystal mod you say? Well of course it is 😀 Actually this is as close as it gets to what I had in mind when I initially started working on the Hungry Slime mod 😉 But here I learnt from my previous mistakes and put away the self-duplication to avoid having to deal with massive lag :p
So yeah the base code is quite different as I attempted some optimisations in various ways, but the basic behavior may look quite similar to Hungry Slime, but with physical slimes: Here the Blight will try to stick to objects, move around in the direction of a loose object and eat matter on its path.
Something pretty new compared to the slimes though is the way Blight forms clusters that are considered as a single entity and moves around seeking a common target 😉 I am pretty happy with how this part ended up as it looks really organic and lively when such clusters moves around and this is all the result of some very simple rules applied to all Blight in the same cluster.
I also wanted the splash and trail options to be enabled by default so that Blight would leave a permanent trail of goop behind it and be able to consume any sort of material thanks to the conversion of the trail… Sadly the current API functions (or the way I was able to use them) resulted in massive lag, so I couldn’t leave them active by default :/
