Red Army:

NKVD:
The People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD) was one of the key internal affairs agencies in the Soviet Union. Established in 1917, it had a broad range of responsibilities, including internal security, counterintelligence, penitentiary matters, and the suppression of alleged state enemies. The NKVD was a pivotal instrument in political repression and maintaining internal control. NKVD units were present at various levels of society, including among party officials, the military, and the public administration.
