AEW | Malden Expansion is an Unoffical Addon that brings the AEW universe by ianassa to the classic Arma map, Malden. Offering an unique perspective on the aftermath of the conflict.

During the events of the East Wind campaign colonel Akhaneros declared the unconditional surrender of his forces on Altis. Following his surrender the former commander of the AAF was put under arrest for the duration of his trials and negotiations with NATO. While being transported to yet another round of negotiations, the column escorting him was ambushed by CSAT special forces, who rescued the colonel from NATO captivity, taking him to Malden via CSAT submarine operating the Mediterranean. For a while, NATO intelligence, preoccupied by the crisis unfolding in the Pacific, was unable to locate Akhanteros.

Despite the formal surrender of the AAF, numerous disconnected cells of AAF loyalists continued hiding on Altis and, occasionally, engaging the withdrawing NATO forces, though their unorganised nature risked the continued existence of their lost cause.
Among the surviving AAF were their special operations forces – ASAS (Altian Special Air Service). Evading NATO forces on the island, ASAS managed to establish contact with their CSAT counterparts and soon learned of their commander’s escape. Assisted by CSAT they secretly made their way to Malden and linked up with Akhanteros.
Under the colonel’s command ASAS began putting to use their extensive knowledge and skill in special warfare. A covert ferry system of fishing trawlers was created to transport AAF remnants from Altis to Malden, where they would be trained by ASAS operators and then return to Altis to continue organised resistance against the nascent democracy now ruling the island – the New Altis Republic (NAR).

All in all the the AAF loyalist force became a few dozen men strong. Despite their relatively small numbers they managed to score some early victories on Altis, so much so that CSAT took an interest in covertly funding their operations. The New Altis Army (NAA) though composed of experienced and highly motivated former guerillas, was too weak and small in numbers to be able to put up a meaningful fight against AAF remnants, instead vying to secure the major populations centres and infrastructure.
To deal with this threat president Nikos appointed ex-AAF major Gavras to command of the NAA. During the recent conflict on Altis NATO special forces had embedded with and trained select cells of the FIA, now under NAA command. Having reached out to their former comrades, an agreement was struck between both sides that NATO special forces would help the NAR create an elite force of it’s own – Force Hades. After months of training and gathering intelligence NAA command was able to identify that the source of incoming trained AAF insurgents was Malden, and promptly deployed Force Hades to deal with the problem at its root.

When NATO invaded Maden on their way to Altis, it was thought that their presence would be somewhat permanent, however they left just as fast as they had come, redeploying to other contested parts of the world. The quick withdrawal left a power vacuum on Malden, one that criminals and marauders were only too happy to fill, taking advantage of weapons and munitions abandoned during the fighting. Maldens’ own local militia – the Citizens Reserve wholly unprepared to deal with the surge in crime and violence.

Distrustful of NATO and desperate to restore peace to their home, the oligarchy that has been running Malden for centuries called upon Russian contractors – PMC Voron. This combined force of mercenaries and militiamen is what’s currently keeping order on Malden. Through CSAT mediation the AAF has a free hand in conducting training of their forces, unimpeded by Voron PMC or the citizens reserve.

A local militia unprepared for the surge in crime and violence following NATO’s rapid withdrawal. Tasked with upholding order and security on Malden, they grapple with limited resources and training, making their efforts to maintain peace a challenging endeavor.

A formidable private military contractor comprised exclusively of mercenaries. Hired by the long-standing Malden oligarchy to quell chaos following NATO’s swift departure, Voron PMC operates with a profit-driven mindset and employs ruthless tactics to maintain control over the island.

An elite special operations force created by the NAR under the leadership of ex-AAF Major Gavras. Formed with the assistance of NATO special forces and former FIA cells, their primary mission is to counter the trained AAF insurgents arriving from Malden and protect the NAR’s interests on Altis.

Remnants of the Altian Armed Forces who remained fiercely loyal to Colonel Akhaneros despite his formal surrender. Operating in secrecy, they resist the New Altis Republic (NAR) and its nascent democracy. Supported by CSAT, they have established a clandestine ferry system to transport fighters from Altis to Malden, with the goal of continuing organized resistance against the NAR. ASAS, the AAF’s special operations forces, play a pivotal role in their operations, utilizing their extensive knowledge and skills in special warfare.

These factions, along with ASAS, represent a complex web of motivations and strategies in the ongoing conflict across Altis and Malden.
