Afghanistan is an land at the furthest edge of Greater Iran, nestled between colossal mountain ranges as well as the mighty Oxus and Indus rivers. The term "Afghan" was first recorded as being said by the Persian Shashanshah, Khosrow I, in reference to the people inhabiting the fringes of Iranian civilization. But at the same time, the term Pashtun, with orgins in Afghanistan’s south, is also a term as old as Vedic civilization. Afghans survived countless invasions throughout history, great nations such as the Persians, Greeks, Indians, Scythians, Hunas, Arabs, Turks, Mongols, Britons, Russians, or Americans; but, despite such adversity, all these great nations eventually meet their decline in Afghanistan. Unfortunately for Afghans, their apt epitaph applies to their various experiments in empire as well, from Isfahan in the west to Sasaram in the east, all fallen in due time under the weight of Afghanistan, the Graveyard of Empires.

- Trait – Equal of Kisra: Conquering a city grants an Envoy and 100 Gold and Faith (on standard speed). +1 Gold and Faith for every sent Envoy. +1% Envoy token points per turn for every military unit. Levied units gain +4 Combat Strength and gain Gold and Faith equal to 50% of a defeated enemy unit’s Combat Strength.
- Agenda – Durrani Empire: Aggressive. Likes civilizations that are far away and that do not compete for city-states. Dislikes civilizations that are nearby and that compete for city-states.

- Trait – Graveyard of Empires: Units within 2 tiles of home territory lower -4 Combat Strength from adjacent enemies.
- Alt Names – Kabulistan, Herat, Kandahar, Taymanids, Hotakids, Abdalids, Durrani, Sadozai, Barakzaiyids, Saqqawists.
- Spawn Bias – Tier 2 Desert Hills, Tier 3 Desert Mountain/Plains Mountain, Tier 4 Plains Hills.
CIVILIZATION UNIT: JEZAILMAN
- Afghan unique Industrial era Melee class unit that replaces the Line Infantry. Does not cost maintenance or resources. +4 Combat Strength if adjacent to a Ranged or Siege class unit.
CIVILIZATION IMPROVEMENT: SHAH’S MOSQUE
- +1 Great Engineer and Great Prophet points per turn. Minor Production and Faith adjacency from districts, increasing to standard adjacency with Divine Right. Additional Tourism at Flight. A city can only have one Shah’s Mosque. Cannot be built adjacent to another Shah’s Mosque.
