Description:

"The John Bull was shipped to an America where the Industrial Revolution was just beginning. The man who assembled the locomotive on its arrival had never seen one. The people who rode in the cars it pulled had never moved so fast."

Congratulations on your subscription to the John Bull Pack! You’re looking at a meticulously researched, finely engineered set, depicting a pioneering steam locomotive at almost every point in its 150+ year career. Why not bring this classic to your layout today?

History

Built in 1831 by Robert Stephenson & Co., the John Bull ran one of the US’s first regular train services, from 1831 to 1866. Since the Smithsonian Institution acquired it in the 1880s, it’s become an icon of railroad history, appearing at exhibitions and expositions across the country until the 1930s. Today, it’s a significant exhibit at the National Museum of American History, standing at the entrance to the museum’s transportation wing. A replica built in 1939 (and featured in this pack!) can also be seen in Strasburg at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
