Description:

To help modders represent the beautiful and diverse array of organisms of our planet, I’m introducing Diverse Diets, a core mod that adds in new food types to cover those not already in the game. This is intended to save modders the work of making the foods themselves and to reduce mod sizes so the players can have more amazing mods in their game.

Important Note

As a Core Mod, this MUST NOT BE DEACTIVATED while dependent mods are still active, as this will cause the game to crash and require the dependent mods to be deactivated in the files in order to fix the issue. Any modder is welcome to use the foods I’ve added in this mod but please make sure to add this mod as a dependency for yours so players do not encounter crashes. Unfortunately we can’t prevent players from downloading mods without reading the mod description, but it should help prevent some individuals from making that mistake.

Content

Difficulty 2:
Carrion: The carcass and left overs of a larger animal. This food is suited for scavenger animals that are best kept by themselves or require more food than scavenging from tank mates would allow.

Fish Mix: An assortment of frozen fish, these need to be prepared by staff and provides an alternative to Herring to prevent that bottleneck in food.

Fridge: Contains an assortment of frozen fish, these need to be prepared by staff and provides an alternative to Herring to prevent that bottleneck in food.

Fruit: An assortment of fresh and ripened fruit. This food suits frugivorous animals.

Live Insects: A low tier live food, this is a culture of live crickets. Smaller predators that require live prey will enjoy these insects, which feed on vegetables to reproduce.

Nectar: A highly delicious and nutritious plant fluid, loved by both butterflies and beetles alike
Nuts and Seeds Mix: An array of seeds and nuts for granivores of all types. This low tier food can be used for many birds, rodents, insects and more.

Omnivore Diet: A set of pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, sea food, meats, nuts, seeds and even rocks that can be combined to meet all sorts of generalist omnivore dietary needs.

Difficulty 3:
Branches: A mid tier herbivore food, these boughs and branches are used to feed folivores and xylophagous animals.

Dechlorinated Water: Dechlorinated water is what is typically used in aquariums, but it is also much better for plants and animals on land as well.

Frozen Mice: A lower tier frozen food, mice are useful for a variety of predators such as insects and smaller vertebrates.

Frozen Shrimp: A low tier frozen food for crustacean eaters that eat larger prey than krill but smaller than crabs.

Live Fruit Flies: A low tier live food, these fruit flies are for exceptionally small insectivores. Specially bred to be flightless, they come in pre packaged colonies with built in food that are replaced from time to time, meaning they don’t need daily food.

Live Meal Worms: The larval form of the Darkling Beetle is characterized by their high nutritional value. However, their thick, chitinous shell makes them only suitable for animals that can properly digest them. Requires vegetables to reproduce.

Difficulty 4:
Distilled Water: Some plants, particularly carnivorous ones, do not tolerate additional nutrients in the soil well. As such, special care must be taken to water them with only distilled water.

Frozen Rats: A high tier frozen food, rats are good for terrestrial predators that are too large to live off of frozen mice and is more economical than larger cuts of meat.

Live Earthworms: A lower tier version of live foods, this requires compost to keep the colony surviving. Perfect for freshwater animals that won’t accept dead blood worms.

Snails: A lower tier live food, this can be used for small durophagous animals that need to wear down their teeth or will otherwise refuse pellets or dead prey.

Squid: A high tier frozen food, they often have enough nutritional value such that animals don’t need additional supplements when fed squid.

Difficulty 5:
Meat Chunks: A high tier frozen food for large terrestrial carnivores, this represents a variety of meats from cow, pig, chicken and other animals to cater to large predator’s needs.

Difficulty 6:
Live Daphnia: A mid tier live food for small freshwater animals, they require green pellets to maintain population.

Quail Egg: Egg-eating animals, known as ovivores, must eat eggs to survive. Quail eggs are typically chosen for their relatively small size, and are easier to obtain than smaller bird eggs.

Difficulty 7:
Ice Cubes: Some plants require a slow drip of water, or a cooler water source. Ice cubes are excellent for this purpose, as they melt slowly into a cool trickle of water.

Live Rosy Reds: A high tier live food for predatory freshwater animals, they require zoo plankton to breed.

Live Copepods: A high tier live food for both fresh and salt water animals, they require green pellets to maintain population.

Difficulty 8:
Live Cnidarians: A high tier live food for animals that specialize in feeding on soft bodied prey. They require zoo plankton to breed.

Live Spiders: A high tier live food intended for specialized araneopaghes, they require live fruit flies to sustain themselves.

Difficulty 10:
Compost: A low cost food for feeding earthworms and fertilizing plants and fungi, this food has a high difficulty modifier to offset the prestige loss of having long delays between feeding. Meant to be given to plants every 7-21 days.

More foods will be added at a later date, if you are a modder who wants a specific food added, moved up in priority or have a food object you want integrated into this mod, feel free to comment below or message me on discord.
