Chinese Paddlefish
Adds the Chinese Paddlefish (Psephurus gladius) to your game! An extinct species once found in the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, but was declared extinct in 2019. Once abundant, water pollution, overfishing and dam construction were this species’ undoing. While it was alive, the Chinese Paddlefish was the world’s largest living freshwater fish, that title now goes to the related Beluga Sturgeon. With the Chinese Paddlefish’s extinction, it left the American Paddlefish as the last living paddlefish species. The Chinese Paddlefish fed on fish, rather than the plankton preferred by the American Paddlefish.
