Hillside Forest
Name says it all, a Black Walnut forest on a hillside.
I was done with RF map making, but recently I took part in a game jam at my university. I signed up to be assigned a team, but the three other people who did the same did not show up. Since I’m only a 3D artist I was kinda screwed. There was no way I could make a game. But then I started thinking and realized I still could do something with the theme, "Whatever goes around, comes around". I decided on making a free asset pack with a walkable demo scene. It still fit in with the theme as my assets would now "go around" and then "come around" as a map or game someone makes!
After the game jam, I decided to make a quick simple map using the assets I made during the game jam. This was three days of mapping work, with roughly one day just fixing up problems. All of the assets I made during the jam were made 100% from scratch, but I used some props in this map from previous projects that used textures I gathered from the internet.
Unfortunately, tree colliders weren’t able to be worked in. It was either they don’t have colliders, or they don’t block the AI’s vision. Never got the chance to see colliders in action, but they probably would have made the bots bump into everything anyways.
One word of advice is to follow the trails. Sure you may want to go off the beaten path to make a beeline right for your destination, but if you follow the trails it gives you a more immersive experience and a better feel of the map!
The recommended bot count is 60-75
This map is the first map that features heightblended terrain textures (I think)! Big thanks to PersonPerhaps for linking the terrain material that enabled this! https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198999569386
If you want to use the assets I made in your own project you can find them here: https://lithuanian-dude.itch.io/free-forest-themed-assets
I used a couple assets from my Stratis map as well. You can use them too as I made them public on the official RF Discord. Just go to the maps and modding major links channel.
Mods used in screenshots were from Mombae’s Polish pack, and various German mods from the WW2C
