Description:
"Architecture, of all the arts, is the one which acts the most slowly, but the most surely, on the soul."
– Ernest Dimnet

As the French colonists gained control of Saigon (now known as Ho Chih Minh City), they found out that a wooden church could not sustain the damage of termites. Thus the Notre-Dame of Cathedral of Saigon was commissioned in 1863 and completed in 1880. The cathedral was built of red bricks imported from France, decorated with 56 stained-glass windows imported from Chartres (famous for the Chartres Cathedral). Even after the end of French colonial rule, the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saigon stood as the religious center of Vietnamese Catholics and a tourist attraction for visitors from all over the world.
