Introduction

The Kawasaki BK-117 is a twin-engined medium utility–transport helicopter. This model is outfitted for Search & Rescue / Emergency Medical Service use. This rotary craft has the ability to sustain 60kts in cruise, as well as the ability to accommodate up to 7 souls at a time. The size, speed, and utility of this helicopter makes it ideal for Search and Rescue and Medical Transportation roles.

    Operating Handbook

    As a preflight precaution, one should always turn on the master power switch, and retract the harness winch into it’s fully stowed position to prevent a loose harness from flying up into the rotor blades.

    Startup

    • Master Power ON
    • APU ON
    • Allow compressors to power on, and steadily increase the power setting to 11.0 RPS, or full operating power.
    • ~30RPM compressors engage
    • Wait for stable ~400RPM
    • Avionics switch ON
    • APU OFF
    • Decrease power to 8.0 – 10.0 RPS for idle setting (Use when landed to prevent slippage)
    • Enable Necessary Lighting (Nav Lights Minimum)

      Flight

    • Press [1] to enable Gyroscopic Stabilizer
    • Increase power to Full Operating Power (11.0RPS)
    • UP / DOWN = Collective
    • LEFT / RIGHT = YAW
    • W / S = PITCH
    • A / D = ROLL
