ICE 3 is the name given to various series of ICE high-speed trains. With a maximum speed of 330 km/h they are the fastest passenger trains of Deutsche Bahn. In regular operation, they reach up to 300 km/h in Germany and up to 320 km/h in France as planned.
An essential special feature of the ICE 3 is the underfloor drive distributed over the entire train. Four of the eight carriages of an approximately 200 m long ICE-3 multiple unit are powered. Compared to locomotive-covered trains, the ICE 3 thus has a lower axle load and more seats for the same train length.
