KS-23 Special Carbine
KS-23 is known for it’s large bore and it’s enormous gauge, it’s gauge is 4, most appropriately the 23×75mmR it’s too large even for European and US standards even to this day. It’s purpose was to be used in prison riots.
In the 1970s, it was developed and designed by TsNIITochMash to answer the MVD’s (Ministry of Internal Affairs) demand for shotgun used for it’s law enforcement and internal intelligence units. The barrels of the shotgun were from a rejected anti aircraft gun, these AA guns were rejected simply over the fact these AA gun prototypes didn’t met the Soviet standards.
Of course the Soviets started developing, designing, manufacturing the gun itself. Then after the collapose of the USSR it’s passed to it sucessor states like Armenia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Today the shotgun it still being used to this day by the nations mentioned. In conflicts, It used today by both Ukrainian and Russians alike. Though before the Russo-Ukrainian war, the weapon had been used as way back during the Soviet-Afghan war mainly used by Spetsnaz. After the Afghan war, It’s been used both Russian and Chechens during 1st and 2nd Chechen Wars and the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian since the 2014 and 2022.
