North Sea Pack – Abyss Aquatics
Adds the Brill, Common Dab, European Anchovy, Common Smoothhound, Greater Pipefish and Common Skate to your game! This mod is my submission for the North and Baltic Seas challenge. Credit goes to SaltbrushC for the Common Dab model and credit to IrritatingFish for the Common Skate Model.
Brill (Scophthalmus rhombus) – A flatfish similar to (and easily mistaken for) the Turbot, mostly found in deeper offshore waters. It is a valued food fish but is less flavourful than it’s cousin the Turbot.
Common Dab (Limanda limanda) – A relatively small flatfish. Once usually thrown back when caught, the Common Dab is growing in popularity as a food fish to take pressure off more heavily exploited species like Haddock and Atlantic Cod.
European Anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) – Anchovies live fast and breed fast to maintain their populations, as they are a favoured food of almost anything that can catch them. They also make a pretty dodgy pizza topping, stick with pepperoni.
Common Smoothhound (Mustelus mustelus) – These relatively drab sharks get the ‘hound’ part of their name from their tendency to form large groups, like a pack of dogs. They are easily mistaken for several other species of houndshark.
Greater Pipefish (Syngnathus acus) – One of the larger pipefish, the Greater Pipefish lives and hunts in seagrass, feeding on small crustaceans like mysids.
Common Skate (Dipturus batis) – Common in name only, the Common Skate is actually critically endangered. Once common, commercial fishing has taken a heavy toll on it’s populations. Sharks and rays grow and reproduce slowly, making them especially vulnerable to overfishing.
