The Wz.29 was a Polish development of the G98 platform that began shortly after Poland regained independence in 1918. In the interwars years, like many other nations, the Polish decided to shorten their service rifle and improve some weaker features, eventually resulting in the Wz.29, which was produced mainly for the Polish army (and some exports, mainly Republican Spain), although after the German occupation they began producing it for them in small quantities.
