This is a well known locomotive, it was known for it’s wreck back on April 30, 1900. This locomotive is also known as the locomotive that killed Jonathan Luther "Casey" Jones.
Illinois Central 382 is a 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler Type locomotive, constructed by the Rogers Locomotive Works in May 1898, it was a powerful locomotive for the time, it was used primarily for passenger service, after its wreck on April 30, 1900 the locomotive would be rebuilt at the Paducah Shops in Paducah, Kentucky and would return to service, but it would suffer accidents, which took the lives of 6 workers and injuring many others. in January 1903, some criminals would cause 382 to wreck, nearly demolishing the locomotive, the engineer Harry A Horton, would lose both his legs and was scalded, he would die in 1906, in September 1905, the locomotive would get involved in another accident at the Memphis South Yards, after flipping over, Daniel Norton would be uninjured as the locomotive was moving slow. in January 22, 1912, 382 (At the time 2012), would get involved in another wreck that would kill 4 railroad workers, and injured several others, the engineer at the time was Strewed, who was driving the locomotive at the time of the crash. before getting scrapped it would derail again, claiming the live of a final victim, 382 would be scrapped in July 1935, as of today only the bell survives, with Clinchfield Railroad 4-6-0 No. 99 dolled up to resemble ICRR 382, which sits today at the Casey Jones US History Museum in Jacksonville Tennessee, the bell is also at a Casey Jones Museum, but at Vaughn, Mississippi.
