Accidents:
June 12, 1946 No. 604 was hauling the eastbound Powhatan Arrow after departing Cincinnati. It would derail at 3:18 PM 4 miles west of Powhatan, West Virginia due to excessive speed at 56 MPH, killing both engineer Grover C. "Nap" Roberts and fireman Beecher Lawson, injuring 23 passengers, 3 dining car employees, and one train service employee.
February 20, 1946, No. 607 also derailed with the Powhatan Arrow near Franklin Furnace, Ohio, killing its fireman, the derailment was due to a failure to obey an automatic block-signal and entering a turnout at an excessive speed of 77 mph.
June 24, 1953 No. 611 would get involved with a grade crossing accident after hitting a tractor-trailer truck while pulling the same train as 604 in 1946, the damages to 611 being a dented bullet nose and crushing its front footstep on the fireman’s side, it was repaired shortly after.
