Description:

Nickel Plate Road’s Berkshire class locomotive #765 was built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. The Berkshire class of locomotives were originally designed as an upgrade to the Mikado class of locomotives, and were used in both freight and passenger services.

NPR #765 was retired to display status in May, 1963, but was bought back 10 years later by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. By 1982, the locomotive was in fit enough shape to run tourist excursions, and was later overhauled beginning in 1993 to be in its factory condition.
