In 2002, Stockholms Lokaltrafik ordered new commuter trains from Alstom of the Coradia Nordic model. Coradia Nordic is a version of Coradia Lirex. The first trains, called X60, were put into service in 2005.
The trains consist of six units and are adapted for entry from a 73 cm high platform. In 2009, a new version called X61 were delivered to Skånetrafiken and Östgötatrafiken for service in southern Sweden.
These trains consist of four units and are adapted for entry from a 58 cm high platform. Unlike X60, they are also equipped with a toilet. They were put into service in 2010.
In the same year, a new version called X62 was delivered to Norrtåg for northern Sweden. They have a higher top speed, better comfort, and a bistro. X62 was put into service in 2011.
Västtrafik ordered new commuter trains of the X61 type in 2008 for the Gothenburg area, and the first trains were put into service in 2012.
