Poaching and Hunting Privileges
This small mod adds Poaching as a crime and adds a Hunting Privileges vassal contract.
The Hunting activity decision has been moved to a character interaction. You can ask permission to hunt in a character’s holding, or else hunt in your own holdings. Oh and you can use hooks to increase the chance of getting a "yes". You can also skip the "ask for permission" part, either by poaching, which results in a poaching secret, or "exercising hunting privileges" which results in a small opinion hit. Hunting privileges come from either being that character’s liege, or from a vassal contract option.
Hunts now also take into account terrain to decide their quality, which affects events, not entirely clear what it actually does as it’s some hidden vanilla mechanic. But yeah, hunting in farmland is bad, hunting in forests is good.
Also note that once you complete a hunt in a province, the province is considered "overhunted" for 20 years. Once you’ve used up all the good hunting spots in your realm, hunting on your neighbor’s property might start to look a little more appealing.
I’ve also added an event that can fire during an illegal hunt where someone accompanying you realizes you don’t have permission to hunt in this area. During that event they’ll learn your poaching secret. I’ve also added an event that can fire for any hunt where you accidentally stray into a neighboring county and have the option of covering it up (resulting in a poaching secret) or asking for forgiveness (minus prestige and gold).
It’s probably not that historical. Nobles probably woudn’t have been arrested for poaching. My justification is some combination of: property rights being important during this period, it fitting nicely into gameplay, and poaching being a stereotypical medieval thing.
It’s also probably not such a great fit for non-feudal/western/European societies. I’m open to any suggestions.
There will be conflicts with other mods that also edit vassal contracts or the hunting on_actions.
You can just use whatever you’d like from the mod without permission, it’s too a simple concept to attach any ownership to it.
