Tome of Entwining
Do you wish the game had more plant units and plant themed magic so you could roleplay as a treefolk druid?
Do you miss that fun Root Network mechanic from Battleforge where plant units could take root and connect to each other to enable more powerful attacks?
Do you enjoy playing graveyard or sacrifice decks in strategy card games like Magic the Gathering? For example: Golgari "reanimation" decks where you bring back powerful units from the grave, or Sultai/Rakdos "steal and sac" decks where you steal your opponent’s creatures and sacrifice them for a tempo swing before you have to give them back?
Or do you just want lush, green, pretty things to look at?
This might be the tome for you! 😀
Tome of Entwining is a plant-themed Tier I tome that is build around the "Entwined" status effect. Basically, it’s all about turning your enemies into plants under your control after they die. I’ve also built a "Root Network" mechanic where your plant units can root themselves and connect to other plants to support each other.
Here are some cool things you can do with the tome:
Cool Thing #1 – Necrobotany!
Think: Necromancy, but without the smelly undead!
This is fun if you like "rush" strategies where you build a massive swarm of cheap, low-tier units in the early game to overwhelm your enemies.
Step 1: Cast "Entwine" on as many enemies as possible in the battle (tip: use the hero skill, or the Entwined Vengevine unit, or the Grim Flowering spell).
Step 2: Kill them.
Step 3: Watch them come back to life as T1 Entwined Thralls under your control.
Cool Thing #2 – Plant Pokemon!
The Entwined Scourge (Tier 4) is SUCH a cool unit! It’s like the love child of Treebeard and Gandalf. Alas, there is no reliable way to recruit it in the game.
So I made a new Tier 2 plant mage called the "Entwined Vengevine" that evolves into a Tier 4 Entwined Scourge when it gets enough xp. *cue pokemon evolution music*
Cool Thing #3 – Steal, Spank & Sac!
Want to hit your enemies with their own units?
Step 1: Afflict an enemy unit with the "Entwined" status effect.
Step 2 (Steal): Use the Rootweaver unit’s "Vine Puppet" ability to mind-control that Entwined unit.
Step 3 (Spank): Hit them with their own unit
Step 4 (Sac): Just before the mind-control runs out and you have to hand the unit back, sacrifice it with something like the "Compost" ability.
This creates a nice tempo swing. Plus, Compost regenerates nearby plants. AND! The enemy comes back as an Entwined Thrall under your control.
"You get a tree! And you get a tree! And YOU get a tree! Everbody gets a tree!" – Plant Oprah, probably.
