Description:

The Sanhedrin is a religious Jewish society comprised of Judges. Members have many duties, but they also enjoy various benefits.

Please allow the game to run for 3-4 months while everything is getting set up. I’ve disabled most interactions during that time.

Disclaimer:

This mod is not 100% historical. I have made some deviations for the sake of gameplay or complexity. If you find any of these offensive please do not hesitate to notify me. Needless to say it is not my intention to offend. 🙂

Ranks

Elders

  • Elders are respected men among The Sanhedrin, but they hold no power over any lawful cases. Instead they seek to assist the other members and improve themselves in prepartion of becoming the next Councillors.
  • The only rank that can still donate to The Sanhedrin.
  • Power: Can alleviate a sick character’s pains, either reducing the severity of their illness or giving them a temporary health boost.

Lesser Councillors

  • Comprised of 23 members, the Lesser Council handles all minor cases that are presented to The Sanhedrin.
  • Power: Can invite unlanded Elders.
  • Power: Can remove a vice they have through secluding themselves in meditation.

Greater Councillors

  • Comprised of 71 members, the Greater Council handles all the other cases presented to The Sanhedrin.
  • Although being declared Muhram(jewish excommunication) is supposed to be permanent, they may recieve appeals in an attempt to lift them.
  • Benefits from the Hall of Hewn Stones.
  • Power: Can convert the culture of a province they own personally or via vassal.
  • Power: Can study to gain the Sage lifestyle trait

Ha-Nasi

  • The Grandmaster of the society
  • Benefits from the Hall of Hewn Stones.
  • No longer recieves society missions.
  • Power: Lower member obediance
  • Power: Can excommunicate Jews within reason.
Main Features
  • A ledger is accessible by decision for the player. In it you can see The Sanhedrin’s treasury and information related to the Hall of Hewn Stones.
  • A global treasury for The Sanhedrin. Handling courts and gathering the councillors for them will require some money. Each court case that they recieve will deduct some money from the treasury. Jewish rulers can choose to donate money to The Sanhedrin in exchange for a modifier in their capital county. There are also other small miscellanious sources of income.
  • The Hall of Hewn Stones was the traditional meeting place of The Sanhedrin. So the Ha-Nasi can request to rebuild it in Jerusalem from the current owner of the county. The hall can be upgraded over time and will give increasingly powerful modifiers to the Ha-Nasi and the Greater Councillors.
  • A total of 5 missions currently. 2 of them are disabled for Elder rank only. The Ha-Nasi is also exempt from all missions.
  • Cases will be presented to the councillors in which they can either punish or absolve the parties involved. I will probably add variations later.
  • A new plot for Jewish characters: Accuse of Theft. This is directly tied to one of the cases for the Lesser Council.

Compatibility
  • CK2: V3.3
  • NOT achievement compatible
  • NOT savegame compatible
  • This doesn’t touch any vanilla files so in theory should be compatible with most mods.

For reference, anything that changes c_jerusalem or b_jerusalem will probably break stuff. Building mods or mods that add cultural names are fine.
