Description:

After a few months of development, my first rivals character is here. Now this is my first attempt at not only making a Rivals character, but spriting in general! So all criticism is welcome to help me improve.

Mechanic: Hype
During the battle, Hyperball’s meter, his hype, will change. Attacking opponents and parrying their moves will increase your hype. Getting hit and having your moves parried decreases hype. Higher hype gives you stronger moves, but the endlag will be increased. Lower hype makes your moves weaker, but with less endlag. Special moves have certain properties change depending on your hype. When you reach one of the sides on your hype meter, your special moves will change drastically. After 9 seconds of this, you lose hype.

Specials:

Neutral B: Shout Out
Hyperball shouts. While not too powerful, it has a good range around him, knocks opponents upwards for a followup, and burns them. At max hype, the scream does more damage and knockback. At min hype, the move is weaker and loses its burn, but it’s much more reliable at starting combos and can quickly be used to stop an enemy approach or combo.

Side B: Flurry
Hyperball punches rapidly, before ending with an uppercut. The amount of hype changes the amount of initial punches, though the uppercut doesn’t get any special changes from hype.

Up B: Fireworks
Hyperball boosts upwards. Pressing B makes you blow up, allowing you to add some horizontal height. Hype affects the damage of the explosion.

Down B: Overreaction
A simple counter. The higher the hype, the greater the damage scale. Lower hype lowers the damage scaling, though there’s only a minimum of 1.0 damage. Successfully countering the move increases hype by a bunch. Missing it decreases hype by half the amount.

– Thanks to my friends on Discord for sending me a bunch of random screams.
