Description:
Abiziency New Gclasses Universe. Iteration: Supreme Harmony

Abstract

The mod Introduces classes that reflect the author’s take on shiremct’s well-known Proficiency classes. Introduces seven new classes, an overhaul of the Templar, and slight edits to Reaper and Skirmisher, using all perk packs in existence. These classes are intended to be used with DerBK’s fun A Better Weaponry (although this is optional).

Overview

shiremct’s well known Proficiency class pack is a master class in xcom2 soldier class making. They demonstrate extremely deep consideration and great planning and foresight. And they are also incredibly fun. However, after the author played a few games with Proficiency classes and then used other classes, and had access again to things like Fleche, Reaper, Bladestorm, and Killzone, the author realized how much he misses those abilities. The author’s experience with Proficiency showed how necessary it is to limit the scale of those powerful abilities. Ergo, the Abiziency classes do re-introduce those abilities, but under some limitations:

  • The most powerful/unique/role defining abilities are put on the same rank, and are made mutually exclusive, or are in the XCOM deck, and thus subject to chance.
  • An attempt to make all specs of the class viable, with a varied XCOM row (the pool of XCOM row abilities has 20 abilities per class) being able to tip the scale into one spec or the other.

This mod introduces seven new classes: Sniper, Reconnaissance, Combat Medic, Technical Assault, Gunner, IT Specialist, and Engineer. This mod also overhauls completely the Templar tree. For detailed information about those changes, see Appendix A.

Simply put – if shiremct is the master chef that creates the precise combination of tastes to stimulate all parts of your mouth in harmony, my approach is "PUT MORE GRAVY ON IT". Make of that what you will.

Configuration

This mod consists entirely of config. If you had a spare afternoon, you could recreate it yourself. The reader is welcome to edit whatever necessary. Some of the edits might require to change configs of the prerequisite mods.

Compatibility

There is nothing to stop you from using these classes along other classes, but my intention is to have this class as a complete class pack. The author also plans to use Field Alchemist and Phalanx along these classes, but there is no plan to massively overhaul them, just to make slight adjustmenets, like those done to the Reaper and Skirmisher. This work will be done in the future. It is also encouraged to use the Battlefield Leadership Training mod with these classes. Other than that, it is not encouraged to use other classes, but there’s nothing stopping you from doing it.
Also, this mod changes SMG to be a seprate weapon category. If you use SMG on other classes, then it might affect them, make sure to verify that.
Also, when used with other classes, these classes will probably be rarer, since their NumInDeck is set to be 1 (and not the usual 4).

Required Mods

The required mod list is quite large, let us go over it.

  • Highlander – absolutely necessary.
  • A Better Weaponry – important prerequisite. The classes are designed around having this mod (for example, cannons being able to shoot twice by default). Technically optional, but this is not the intended experience.
  • Proficiency class pack and all its plugins – necessary.
  • Disable Any Class – optional. Just a quick way to disable all the classes that come with the prerequisites. It can also be done by config edits, etc. ALTERNATIVELY, go to this mod’s config folder, to the DisableClassesHere subfolder, and rename XXComClassData.ini to XComClassData.ini (remove the first X). This will disable all proficiency, shadow ops, lw2 and Stormrider classes from random promotions, and GTS training. It will not make the GTS abilities disappear, though.
  • LW2 Classes Perk Pack – can be replaced with LW2 Classes and Perks. This will obviously also add the classes themselves. Note that the mods by default modify base game abilities, so you might want to look into that.
  • Shadow Ops – necessary. If you don’t want the classes, that’s why Disable Any Class is here.
  • Bstar Perk pack – necessary.
  • Extended Perk Pack – necessary.
  • Mitzruti Perk Pack – necessary.
  • Extended Explosive Tweaks – probably optional, but changes the balance of the Engineer class. Extended Explosive Tweaks makes cover destruction more difficult, so it’s ok to have grenades do more damage. Also, it introduces abilities that are used for the Engineer class.
  • Iridar’s Perk Pack, Templar Shield, Stormrider – used for Templar edits. The Stormrider class itself is not supposed to be used. If you don’t like the Templar edits, you can ignore.
  • Template Master – sets SMG to be its own weapon category.
  • Ability To Slot Reassignment and Musashi Mod Fixes – come with the Stormrider, and used for the Templar edits. Otherwise, can be ignored.
  • LW Smg Pack – adds the SMG to the game. If you use CI, then you need also the CI bridge for SMG. Technically the classes can work without SMGs, so this is optional.
  • Ability Prerequisite Get-Arounder – used to set abilities as mutually exclusive. Technically optional.
  • True Primary Secondaries – needed for the Urban Warrior class. Old Primary Secondaries coudl work, didn’t test.
  • Rocket Launchers – needed for the Urban Warrior class.

Known Issues
  • If you skipped some of the requirements, don’t be surprised when you class tree doesn’t have all the abilities in it (duh).

Acknowledgements

The author is grateful to the following for their assistance in the mod:
shiremct for the initial creation of the Proficiency classes and the permission to re-use them this way.
Team Pavonis – the LW2 classes that inspired some of the ideas in these classes.
DerBK – for A Better Weaponry
Favid – for the extended perk pack, extended explosive tweaks, and Shadow Ops perks.
Deadput – for the Assault Technical which was repurposed into the technically completely different Technical Assault class, as well as the LW2 Perk Pack.
Kiruka – for ABB perk pack, and the ability prerequisite go-arounder.
Mitzruti – for the perk pack, as well as useful comments on how to use some of the abilities with Proficiency Templar.
Iridar – for the Stormrider class, and the various Templar perks.
Losu – for useful comments on how to use those Templar abilities with proficiency Templar.
As usual, the author is grateful to the members of the MEME Discord server for useful discussions and continued emotional support.
This mod’s name should, in no way, imply that any part of the Proficiency classes cause the author any sort of anguish. Just…. fun with acronyms.
